Jimmie Bailey Secretary to the Dean Technical-Vocational Dean Hunt ' Being the community college South Plains is, we have a responsibility to the community and those people of the community who through industrial and individual desires seek technical training instead of the degrees stressed by most educational institutions, says Dean Frank Hunt, Dean of the Technical Vocational School in stating the assets of a sound TVO program at SPC. I think we are meeting these needs with a full field of training. Our facilities and staff are improving all the time, continued Dean Hunt. The modern, spacious, newly completed diesel mechanics building personifies this prog- ress. As the Dean of this changing program, Mr. Hunt is responsible for developing new pro- grams and coordinating advisory boards in the operation of existing programs. Local and area businessmen and technical experts aid Dean Hunt and SPC in these programs by partici- pating on these advisory councils. According to Hunt, a graduate of Big Spring High School, Howard County Junior College and Southern Texas State, the commu- nity college includes three major fields of education. The three are the Academic school, the Continuing Education School and the Technical Voca- tional School. The junior college is nothing new to Dean Hunt since his fa- ther has served as President of Howard County Junior College at Big Spring the past 19 years. As Dean of the TVO pro- grams he must work with the people of the area communities and also meet the individual needs of the students of these communities seeking TVO training. Registrar Dr. Sylvester To provide an atmosphere which encour- ages learning, is one of the main objectives of SPC Registrar, Dr. Charles Sylvester. He be- lieves that at any level, in the strictest sense, the teacher cannot teach, but can only help the student to learn. The only function of this office, avows Dr. Sylvester, is to be a service to the students. If we fail to perform this service, We fail in our responsibility. Dr. Sylvester's concern for young people is shown in his devotion to his own family. He and his Wife, Hazel, have three daughters. They try to plan activities in which they can all be involved. My main area of relaxation is with my family, he says, but adds with a grin, except during football season. Billie Burtner June Gerstenber er 8 Administrative Assistant Administrative Assistant Dr. Sylvester, a charter member of the staff, graduated from Vernon High and received his B.A., M.Ed., and Ph.D. grees from Texas Tech University.
