'QU of the Club are President, Pervis Bledsoeg Vice-President, Charles Mathisg Secretary, Conway Parllamentanan Steve Flemingg and Treasurer, Shirley Willis: of the Club are Nina Conway, Thomas Halton, Charles Mathis, Leonard Waites, Gail Willie Tafte Walter Smith Alley Willis, Rushy Moore, Pervis Bledsoe, David Golightly, Fleming Phyllis Blair Wayne Foley, Faye Butler, Glenn Fleming, and Joe Rize. A new club was formed on campus this year. The name of the new orga- nization is Vochais, meaning love. The groundwork for the new Black organization was laid out during the first semester in a series of meetings held by the Black students and sever- al faculty members and administra- tors. Advisors for the new club are Travis Spears, Sherly Foster, and Dean Earl Gerstenberger. Serving as ex-officio advisor is Dean Scott ,of Texas Technological University in Lubbock. The basic constitution of the Vo- chais Club has four major functions: to attempt to get ,more Black stu- dents to enroll at South Plains, to enable the Black student body to have a voice in various college activitiesg to su ort and arouse spirit for Black atiiietesg and to serve as a social out- let for Black students. In order to eliminate any doubts about its reasons for forming, the :lub placed various protections against overthrow, misuse, and misin- terpretation of its purposes in their constitutional b -laws. The Vochais glub is open for mem- bership to all students, no matter what their color as long as support the purposes and goals of the pro- gram.
