Department head Mr. Hoiles has done a fine job supervising and coordinating the curriculum. Most creative and unique experiments were performed by students in physics classes. Earlier this year Eric Machet, Larry Rothweiler, and Ronald Sepanak conducted an experiment using the air track. They measured the rate of the loss of height in successive bounces on the air track to find an unknown mass. Mike Bowman made a record strobe which calculates the rate at which the turntable of a record player rotates. Paul Buckley and Paul Egert used a velocity timer to analyze the motion of 180 pounds of bar bell being weightlifted. The physics classes also produced a publication called Physics Phun under direction of Mr. Goode. It contained achievements of Students of the Week, various problems to be solved, and inspiring thought. Students also were involved in a Physics Bowl, quiz competition between teams of students.
