So close yet so far, seemed to be the catch phrase of the Tiger cagers this year. Although they compiled a superb record of 16-6 before the end of the state tournament, the team was slightly disappointed by just missing the Mid-State Conference and Mid- dlesex County titles. First place in the MSC was lost when the team fell to Piscataway in a play-off game to resolve the three way tie between SP, East and Piscataway. A disastrous fourth quarter knocked them out of conten- tion for the county title. Nevertheless, the team had a successful season defeating many formidable opponents. The team had much spirit and bounced back from their defeats by beating North Hunterdon for a position in the semi-finals of the Central jersey Tourna- ment. Starters for the team were Seniors Mel Petrone, Nancy Slowdovvski, Carol McCauley, junior Pat Eckel and Soph. lacki McDonough. Other members of the team were Senior Kim Van Orsdell, juniors Kathy Fimiani, Maureen Readie, Janice Geary, janet Partika and Soph- omore Ginger Sulovski.
