The Tigers compiled a 1-7-1 record with two out- standing games against Watchung and Thanksgiving game No. Plainfield. This year's team was the first under new Head Coach joe Matticola. The veer offense was used and received fine running from Srs. Kevin Sakevich and Dean Bush, jrs. Mark john- son and Erwin Velasquez also Tom Cox turned in some fine performances. Sr. Fred Behr was hurt early in the season, but returned to have 491, of his passes com- pleted. Most of his completions were to joel Mirra, john Petriello, C. j. Sakevich and Tom Behr. The Tiger's offen- sive line included Srs. Pete Eckel, Fred Mercier, jim DeFillipo, Mark Bashor, joe Yorkanis, Mike Vallone, Mike Mandella and injured Bob Readie and jrs. Eugene Green and Troy Giniecki. This year's defense kept up the tradition of a hard-hitting Tiger defense. The sturdy line included ends john Petriello, jack George, and Tom Moore. The tackles alternated between Eugene Green, jim Vargo and Pete Eckel. Mid- dle guard Sal Severini was one of the best in the confer- ence. The tough linebacking positions were filled by joel Mirra, Dean Bush, jeff George and Scott Dudak. The defensive backs were Rich Hedden, Dan Cismansky, Kevin Sakevich, joe Mantz and C. j. Sakevich. Ken mg piaye,5f0,thef75 Tiger Football Team- Laverne provided a punting and field goal average of 38 yards, The end of the season awards were presented to john Petriello, Lineman of the year, jack George, Most Improved, Kevin Sakevich, Best Back, and Scott Dudak, Red Shirt award.
