National Honor Society The objective of the National Honor Society is to raise the level of secondary schools in the United States by creating an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulating the desire to be of service within one's school, community, and country, promoting Worthy leadership, and by encouraging the development of one's character. The So- ciety's motto is Light is the Symbol of Truth. Members of the National Honor Society must have certain qualifications which up- hold the proposed high standards stated in the Society's charter. These standards are excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. Applicants must be approved by a select group of faculty and Society members . Only Juniors and Seniors are eligible. Sophomores are placed on probation until their junior year. Twelve per cent of the Senior class and seven per cent of the junior class are represented in the Society. Establishment of a school scrapbook, dances, trips, fund raising schemes, and the maintainment of the Student Handbook are among the projects of the National Honor Society. Induction Ceremony 31
