.5 Mr Paravlclm Miss Wogan Mrs. Gilbert 311 Ns. L'Communication is one of the most important words in our present day life. Communication and the knowledge of our lanf guage are important to us all. Here at Southern we are taught more and better ways in which to com' municate and increase our knowledge of English by the able teachers of our English Department. Southern's English Department offers its students many opportunities: journalism, to our creative stuf dentsg the dramatic club, for our actors and actresses. Our English classes are divided into three groups: Honor English, Regular English, and Practical Eng' lish. This enables all students to develop their individual abilities. Our students all agree that Southern's English Department, under the leadership of Mr. Katz, is doing a splendid job. Dr Rosenthal Miss Gillespie Mr. Dehnick Miss Mcllvam Q w. if ,l'5.J3'l'M , ? Dx' Herdegen gi XX f 3 Q r .Q . ,lk Mr. Nelson Department Head We at South Philadelphia High are fortunate in having a science program which offers adequate courses in biology, physics, and chemistry. An outf standing feature of the program is the advanced science course. This course offers students with special talents and abilities a chance to work in the particular phase of science in which they are most interested. Each student works with a teacher whose job it is to encourage and to advise the student, not to lead him. Thus original thinking is encouraged. This, all educators will agree is the fundamental and most important function of education. Mrs Grant Mrs. Cohen Mr Reed U53 Hb If Zhu' Mr Salvucfl MISS Sparkman Mr. Gmini Mrs K Blvlns e.,1 1169
