There IS somethlnG about lt slmple as It may be ln ltself which flashes to us the whole herolc slde of Greek llfe Hector and Achllles nobler sons of noble SIYCS Qrpheus patron of the finer slde of human emotlons Demosth enes Perlcles Arlstldes the ust and countless others ThouGh lt may be an emblem of classlc ldeallty whlch by some IS not assoclated Wlth practlcal everyday llfe the Greek lalnp has lts message for us wherever we may be lt teaches us that next to an honest man a gentle man IS the noblest work of God lf we leave thls school for wlder fields de termlned that our own llght shall so shlne before men that we may be a credlt to our school and clty we shall not have dlscredlted our llttle Greek lamp nor our lnner purer flame And so the SCDIOYS have chosen the Greek lamp for thelr class pln proud of the thlngs lt stands for and hoplng that It may lmpart to them some of ltS noble lnsplratlon SCHOOL SPIRIT Evervone who Goes lnto Mr Klnney s oflflce sees at one tlme or another a quotatlon on the wall lt doesn t matter how many games we Wln lt s the Splflt that counts That quotatlon fits but one slde of our school llfe the athletlc slde but lt flts lt well Some teams are made up of flne players who cannot help wln Games slmplv because they are Good players But however good they may be they haven t the Splflt that makes fellows dlg even when they know that they are beaten Our tearr's have not made a brllllant record thls year No new pennants Grace ollr walls nor do any new sllver cups sparkle ln the trophy case but deep ln the heart of every student there IS a new feellng whlch Wlll ln tlme brlnG pennants and trophles and wlthout whlch every vlctory IS barren and every defeat bltter as Gall School splrlt has been harped upon for years at S P H S wlthout any appreclable Galn belng notlceable Thls IS the flrst year that foul' football teams have been fully organlzed and the bleachers have been filled at games Blt what IS more preclous than that3 Every student was playlng HIS own part IH the game as slncerely as he could The TlGer Splflt has been resurrected and IS growlnG IH everyone It IS on the athletlc fleld that we see the most actlve manlfestatlon of school splrlt That IS the least part of our own duty however because so few can take part ln athletlc contests Every word a person says about hls school determlnes hls school splrlt A knocker doesn t deserve to attend the school he knocks The man who dlsparages hlS team doesn t deserve the S he wears on hls sweater The student who wont attend a game doesn t deserve to share the pennant whlch the team earns by thelr effort ln short a person who attends S P H S wlthout belng Wllllng to help others does not deserve the lmmunltles and prlvlleges whlch hls assoclatlon wlth hls fellow students Glves hlm School Splflt lS essentlally unselflsh and lf rlghtly de veloped lays a sure foundatlon for colleGe Splflt and cltlzenshlp Dur1nG our four years ln Hlgh School we Seniors have never seen school splrlt as h1Gh as lt has been thls year To be sure It stlll has a long way to go 13 ' 'D ' .
