Wallender . g'irfi Director of Guidance True guidance is more than helping students solve their vocational problems or arranging their course of studyg it is more than a program of testing or a shifting of students from one class to another. Guidance must be as broad as life itself and as specific as each individual. Guid- ance in high school is that part of the educational program which is concerned with helping young men and women become adjusted to their present situation and plan their future lives in line with each one's in- dividual interests, abilities and social needs. It is true that South Park has given some excellent guidance to a few students each year since the beginning. But this is the first year there has been an organized guidance program or coordinated student personnel work. Everyone has problems: problems which arise from the past, prob- lems of present association and problems of the future. Each individual needs help and guidance from birth until death, and it is my vision that the South Park Schools will furnish guidance to every student through- out his entire school life in South Park. The last page has been sent to the printer. It represents a year's effort and tireless endeavor of one of the most loyal staffs with which any editor has ever worked. Every member labored hard and long so that each section would be its best. It has cost us numerous close calls and near failures in those necessary courses, and many a quiet temper has been wrecked. So if you find your name spelled in a new form, or find an altogether different name beside your manly countenance, do not blame us. We thank Mr. Lauderdale, our principal, for his encouragement during the production of the Spindletop. We thank Mr. Stapp for his advice on our art work. We thank Sue Turley, Lois Roberts, Joanne Phares, and the many others who came to our aid. We thank Rolfe Christopher for his infinite patience in taking the activity pictures. We thank the employees of Larry Robinson's Studio for the excellent class pictures. We thank the teachers yvho excused us from classes so we could work on the annual. We thank Flucy Belle for quieting our jumpy nerves the nights we had to work late at school, and last of all-we thank goodness that it is all over. We extend our sympathy to the future Spindletop editors, and, as one editor said, Some people are born crazy, others are temporarily insane, and others edit a year book. -Martha Hutchinson- A '. f 1 'U A I!
