Throughout her four years at South Park she has been very active in the different organizations of the school. She was president of her class in her sophomore yearg vice-president in her junior year, and this year, as class editor of the Spindletop, she has worked hard to make this book a success. The members of the Spanish Club will miss her companionship and the leadership she has shown as president of their club, SELMA GOLDIE CHANCE Salutatorian Selma is a most versatile girl. If it is debating, speaking Spanish, singing like a lark, or playing the piano, Selma is right there. She has been a valuable member of the South Park Glee Club for three years and this year served as secretary of that organization. To have participated in these extra-curricular activ- ities and yet to have maintained her standing as second honor student constitute a record which gives an idea of the kind of a great girl Selma is. DON LOUIS LAURENTZ Honor Boy Don, who made the highest average among the boys of the graduating class, is also one of the best science students of South Park. His work in the Dramatic Club has been outstanding, and who kngwg but what he might be a great actor instead of a petroleum engineer? VIRGINIA RAY GREGORY Virginia, who has been awarded the American Legion Citizenship Award, has distinguished herself in many activities in South Park during the past four years. As member of the Glee Club and the Spanish Club she has done outstanding work. Her ability in athletics and her determination have Won for her the honor of receiving a' G. A. A, letter which requires four years of athletic participation. She found time to serve the Drum and Bugle Corps for two years. She is conscientious in preparing her work, dependable when given special assignments, and is willing to give of her time to teachers and students. She has succeeded in keeping up the Gregory custom, for her sister won the same honor last, year. CHARLIE PARKER BREWER Charlie has well deserved the honor which was accorded him when he received the Bausch and Lomb honor science award for outstanding work in the science department of South Park. He is quiet and unas- suming, but d0n't let that mislead you. Charlie is a conscientious student, and great things are expected of him. LEE ROY EDWARD LINN Lee Roy, president of the Senior Class of 1938, has been awarded the American' Legion Good Citizen- ship Award. He has been an outstanding student during his four years in .South Park. He has served as president of his Freshman, Junior and Senior classes and as vice-president of his Sophomore class. In ath- letics he lettered in football two years and basketball one year. As a scout he has gained his Eagle Badge served as Senior Patrol Leader of his troup and as Senior Patrol Leader of the combined troups fron: Beaumont to the national Jamboree in Washington, D. C. Lee Roy, better known as Foots, or Leekey n to the students, has well deserved the honors which he has received. ' JOHN PRESTON FRENCH, Jr. Preston, to whom was awarded the John G-ray medal for being the best scholar-athlete in the Senior Class of 1938, has been a campus favorite during his entire high school career. He has not only been one of the most outstanding athletes in football and basketball but has maintained one of the highest gcho- lastic records.
