PRINCIPAL 34 JOHN J. MATTIMORE South Park High School To assist us in our perennial pursuit for EXCEL- LENCE in education, the PUSH-EXCEL program was introduced at South Park High School this yean Essentially, PUSH-EXCEL is a motivational pro- gram which has as its goal the improvement of the social and academic climate within our school through new concepts in leadership and self-discipline. This goal can be achieved if we -students, parents, teachers, administrators and community leaders-ioin together for a common purpose-the pursuit of EXCELLENCE. The pursuit of EXCELLENCE is necessarily the achievement of EXCELLENCE, but is our philos- ophy that the individual must never be satisfied with any less than his potential can provide-that he must always look toward the future and aim for the stars. Thus, a total commitment is necessary on th- part of the students to achieve EXCELLENCE i . their studies. Parents as well, have an obligation to super vise their children's framework of study withi the home and to communicate frequently wit their children's teachers. Teachers should expect much of their student and work co-operatively with parents in achiev ing EXCELLENCE within the classroom. Community leaders can lend their support b rewarding student EXCELLENCE with scholarship and new occupational incentives. In essence, the pursuit of this program is t improve the quality of education and to furnis South Park's graduates with the qualities tha will serve them in their future endeavors. John I. Mattimore
