Throughout our four years of learning at South Park, our hool has become for us a harbor that has sheltered us ithin its care. As students and fellow voyagers, we have en momentarily protected from the often demanding out- e world. Only occasionally have we ventured to peer be- nd the boundaries of our haven to view the realities of e. Looking out through the portals of our refuge, South rk, we have, up to this time, only imagined the world be- nd. Soon the hopefullness of our visions will come to eet the test of reality. Nevertheless, we should not fear ce our trip has been the concern of many. Our teachers, ministrators, and our fellow students alike have made ore than sufficient provision for this, our most important yssey. The many teachers who have devoted themselves to our idance have given us the self-confidence that will sustain through many a turbulence and help us retain a sense of 'de and self worth. These tools will serve as both compass d sail. Furthermore, the teaching staff has nurtured within a sense of our individuality. Indeed, this sense of self areness can only enhance our chances for successfully ieving the goals we have established as the destination our life's voyage. he adminstators, like our teachers, have encouraged us to ume a sense of responsibility and integrity. As a result, we e hopefully become more dedicated to a life based upon ues and standards. Mr. Mattimore, our Principal, and his ociates have taught us that we, the graduates of nineteen- hty-one, are the true benefactors of a life whose course been chartered according to moral principle. They have ressed meaningfully upon us the social consequences of h our present and future actions. further integral part of our experience at South Park has n the many and varied school activities in which we have icipated. These cherished moments have helped to moti- e us to become more aware of our peers and their feel- . Moreover, as a result of participating in the activities of h Park, we have become closer and have been better pared to accommodate the diverse interests of people various backgrounds. Through these social interactions have learned personally the possibility for human sharing understanding. Unlike other schools, South Park is ue in its social character. It is truely a harbor that shel- ships from many different parts. This experience has ed to acquaint us with the dynamics of a democratic so- y. In addition, we have been provided the opportunity to the thrill of our shared victories and on occasion, a e of support when faced with disappointment. ow that we are about to depart from the security of th Park, it is natural that we sense both apprehension r the uncertainties of the future and excitement over the ibilities for change and growth. Doubtlessly, we are go- to be confronted with an overwhelming challenge that at 5, may seem impossible to meet. However, we should VALEDICTORIAN LYNN KOWAL be comforted with the thought that part of us will never leave the security of the present moment. Our memories of South Park will remain eternally as beacons directing our hearts back to these special years of our life. Furthermore, all the unknown people who will come to be part of our lives in the future will, in some indirect way, share in the South Park that we have come to love so dearly. Although once we depart we can never return, we should be solaceq by the thought that our Alma Mater will QM: be ourlteniofi tional harbor! , k7, mp. Rem: f, Mtg
