H I S T O R Y was opened aT School No. 72 To accommodaTe l25 freshmen. Wifh These added accommodaTions, and The annex aT No. 67, we were able To Take care of The in- creased number, buT The main building was crowded To overflowing wiTh 3,020 sTudenTs. When iT is realized ThaT This building was originally builT To provide for approximaTely sixTeen hundred sTudenTs, one can readily appreciaTe The difTiculTy encounTered in providing for such a large number. The ChrisTmas season was celebraTed in The TradiTional SouTh Park manner. The enTrance and audiTorium were hung wiTh ChrisTmas greens, The leTTers To parenTs were wriTTen, and The beauTiful pageanT, wiTh iTs angel chorus, heralds, shepherds and kings was presenTed Thursday and Friday aTTernoons and again Friday evening before The ChrisTmas vacaTion. The annual re-union of The Alumni AssociaTion was held Thursday, December 26, wiTh Dr. Lawlor F. Quinlan, presidenT of The AssociaTion, presiding. The dinner in The cafeTeria and The dancing in The gymnasium, which was decoraTed wiTh lighTs and greens, made The evening one long To be remembered. The officers elecTed for The new year were: John Gallagher, PresidenT: William Wilson, Vice-PresidenT: Marcella Godfrey, SecreTary3 Bess Hamm, Treasurer. In all lnTerscholasTic conTesTs in oraTory, declamaTion, debaTing and essay wriT- ing SouTh Park was represenTed and won a fair share of The honors. MargareT E. McCullor Took second place in The Girls' DeclamaTion conTesT and Marion Brader won The American Legion-BuTfalo Evening News essay conTesT, which gained for her and her Teacher, Miss Emilie LineTTy, a Trip To WashingTon during The EasTer vacaTion. This is The second Time in The lasT five years ThaT a SouTh Park sTudenT has won This award. The winning essay appears on page 73 of This issue. On The aThleTic field, SouTh Park scored many noTable vicTories, beginning wiTh The Tieing of BenneTT for The Harvard Cup in fooTball, Tinishing second in golf and second in hockey, and closing The baseball season in a Tie for firsT place wiTh EasT High School. The members of The school band, wearing Their new uniforms, pre- senTed a brillianT appearance aT all The fooTball games, and Their rousing Tunes kepT enThusiasm and school spiriT aT a high piTch during The season. Large squads re- porTed for spring pracTice in Track and Tennis. and inTeresT in all branches of aThleTics ran high ThroughouT The year. The swimming Team was parTicularly successful in winning four meeTs, alThough iT was The firsT year ThaT SouTh Park was represenTed in This sporT. The lively inTeresT on The parT of The sTudenT body in all aThleTic endeavors is evidence of a healThy and wholesome condiTion in This branch of school life. Senior day was observed on June 2nd, a delighTTul brighT sunny day wiTh NaTure conTribuTing in iTs fullesT To make The occasion successful. The moThers of The seniors, The seniors, and The juniors Took parT in The beauTiful exercises in The audiTorium. Two hundred and sixTy-Tive graduaTes received diplomas WiTh CrediT having averaged 75 per cenT or above in eighT oT The required TiTTeen uniTs. One hundred and TwenTy received RegenTs' College EnTrance Diplomas.
