Tonight was another victorious one for the Varsity boys. The game ended with a wide margin - 197-481. FEBRUARY Paris won its traditional rivalry game with Norway, C77-547. The J.V.'s also brought home a victory. Cardinals win the last game of the schedule by beating Gould. Hurrahl I65-45J. Paris wins over Bridgton in pre-lims of medium schools held at Paris gym. The boys really showed their stuff winning 94-53. The spectacular game of the season took place at our gym tonight. Paris upset McFalls in the closing quarter of play. Thus, the Cardinals emerged victorious with a 50 to 48 win. Today we were excused from school in the afternoon to attend the first tournament game. Paris was the victor over Boothbay with the final score of 55 to 54. Some gamel I School closes ending the end of the first part of the winter term. We were excused at noon to attend the tournament game with Wilton at the Lewiston Armory. Our boys were really raring to go - and' they did gol I We won with a wide margin of 83 to 62. The Paris fans flocked to the Lewiston Armory for the big game with Freeport. The Freeport boys proved too much for us, but the game showed the exceptionally fine sportsmanship of the Paris team. Score 169-461. MARCH School opens again for the second part of the winter term. The Paris High School Prize Speakers were eliminated today, leaving seven in each of the divisions-Oratory, Humorous, Dramatic, and Poetry. Today the basketball letters were awarded at the Basketball Assembly. Congratula- tions to both the girls and the boys earning letters and certificates. The Junior Class held a supper at the Uni- versalist Church. It was a big success with 5106 profit. The students enrolled in home economics were given a Rural Electrification Quiz sponsored by the Electric Companies of Maine. 'll Today two of the Paris High boys tried to launch a rocket. The unsuccessful attempt resulted in an accident. Les Gatchell's accl- dent taught us all a lesson in safety. 14 After many weeks of preparation the Science Fair was ready for the public. There were many proiects on display showing much work on the part of the students. 26-27 There was a big turn-out in the Paris gym to hear the many talented Prize Speakers. 28-29 Miss Cram and Elaine Bryant, the winner of the local Rural Electrification Quiz Con- test , traveled to University of Maine today to participate in the State quiz contest. APRIL l April Fools Day, and Paris High School has turned into a madhouse. 4 The National Honor Society held its Initia- tion. Congratulations to the new members. 7 Today elections were held for the Student Day to be held April ll. 9 A boy and a girl from Paris High were sent to the Spear Contest. 'Il A big change took place at Paris High, for the students took the teachers places. Every- one agreed, the Student Day was a big success. 17 The Juniors presented their play at the Association Hall. Gollyl Maybe Hollywood will get a lesson from these kids. Paris sent some speakers to the Oxford County Public Speaking Contest. 18 School came to a close for the Spring vaca- tion. The Seniors are very excited for to- night they begin their Senior trip. After an appetizing send-off by the Juniors, the Class of '58 travelled to Portland, where they took the State of Maine Express for New York City. 19 The first day's observation included a visit to the Statue of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall, Observation Roof, tour of RCA Build- ing, and the United Nations Building. In the evening they attended a stage show, after which 29 tired Seniors retired at the Picca- dilly Hotel in New York. 20 They left New York at 7:30 A.M. for Phila- delphia, where they visited Independence Hall and Valley Forge. game of the season was played today at the fair grounds. The boys really made up for the loss of the first game, winning by a wide margin of 27-6. A Victory Dance sponsored by T.T.T.T. was held at the Paris gym in the evening in honor of our football boys. An assembly program was held today to distribute the Football Letters and Awards. Congratulations, boysl What, no school? The teachers attended the County Convention. Mmmml Smell that foodl The Senior class held a supper tonight. Parent's Night was held at the school, giv- ing all the parents a chance to meet the teachers. Today the girls basketball team began practice. The big night at last. After many days of rehearsals, the Senior class presented the final performance of The Red House at the Association Hall before a capacity crowd. lt was a great success, thanks to the excellent coaching of Mr. Perham. Twenty-three of the F.H.A. girls attended District E meeting in Gould. After school there was an l Speak For Democracy contest held in the gym. The girls played their first game at McFalls in the evening. The score was 150-281 with the Paris girls winning. DECEMBER The Senior girls were given the Betty Crocker Home-maker of Tomorrow test to- day. First basketball game of the season. Wowl l Paris 54 - Norway 42. The J.V.'s also won 35 to 24. During the evening the girls played the alumni, the Paris girls look good this year winning the game with a total score of 53. The P.H.S. Debating Club attended a debate and discussion at Bates College. Today marked another assembly program: this time Mr. Charles Bradford, superintendent of State Parks and Memorials, showed us slides. Basketball game with Gould. Paris wins 57 to 41. Tough luck, J.V.'s. They lost the game in an overtime 150-451. The basketball boys came up with another victory, beating Mexico 65 to 50. The J.V.'s also won 137-301. The girls played McFalls again, emerging with another victory of 52 to 29. The girls played and lost to Oxford in thi gym after school 134-271. Better luck nex time, girlsl Paris varsity wins 59-50 ani J.V.'s 50-27 in 'a scoring game. The Cardinals suffer their first loss. McFall wins 159-511. A Christmas Assembly is held for the studen body during Activity Period. Four Senia girls were caught observing their study ha in the locker room. Shame on you, girls 19-2 Christmas Vacationl JANUARY School opens again for the first part of th winter term. After school the girls played Canton, winnin 130-221. The Cardinals played Bridgton c home. We won again with a score of 74 t 55. The J.V.'s winning with 30-27. Tonight the girls and J.V. teams traveled t Andover. Both teams won. Girls score - 49 to 30, boys score - 57 to 30. Today the girls played West Paris, winnin 39 to 31. After school, the first debate I the Debating Club was held. Rayman Glover and Phyliss Lovejoy on affirmativ side and Dennis Smith and Agnes McKee were on the negative. The girls are at it again, playing a gam with McFalls girls after school and winnin again with a score of 56-28. Oh - Ohp Tonight our Varsity saw defe: by McFalls. The final score was 152-48 The Pattersons presented us with anothe great assembly, this one showed how th gym classes could benefit a person physica ly. The Varsity and J.V.'s traveled to Me: ico tonight. Both games were wins, tl' Varsity 148-4511 the J.V. 153-321. The boys basketball teams played Oxfoi again, winning with scores of 159-421 1 Varsityp 139-14 - J.V.'s. The boys completely demolished St. Dams- 173-441p in the preliminary game, the J.V. also emerged victorious 53-29. What's this? ? I The Paris faculty wins ovi the Oxford Bears. Congratulations! Jane Libby won the Bett Crocker Home-maker award. Basketbc game at Bridgton, brought home two Vi tories. Varsity score - 194-531. The Sophomore class held a successful Foc Sale. trlp they arrlved at York, Pennsylvania at 6:00 P.M., where they registered at York Town Hotel. The evening was free. Wowl I Leaving York at 8:30 A.M., they visited the Gettysburg Battlefield, seeing the elec- tric Map and other highlights of the battle sites. Then they took the Skyline Drive for a visit to the Skyline Caverns, and then to Washington, D.C., where they registered at the Raleigh Hotel. In the evening they visited the Ford Theatre, Washington, Lin- coln and Jefferson Memorials. Anyone tired? ? ? Tuesday already? Today the Seniors visited the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the F.B.l. Building, the Capitol, and Margaret Chase Smith's Office. The rest of the day was spent at the Smithsonian Institute, and the museums. In the evening the Seniors attended Cinerama. The last day away from home! They left Washington for Arlington to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, to Mount Vernon, and the National Cathedral. They left Washington in time to arrive in New York in mid-afternoon. There they visited the Em- pire State Building and then had time for shopping. They left Grand Central Station at 'IO P.M. for Portland. Three ragged Chaperones and twenty-nine blurry-eyed Seniors arrived scfely in Port- land at 7:30 A.M., where they were met by the Paris School Bus. In spite of their good times, they were really glad to ge home again. Spring term opens. Vacation surely goe fast! Here we are back again for the hom stretch of the year. The F.H.A. Girls held the Mother-Daughte Banquet tonight. The food was Mmm-gooc MAY A Variety Show was held tonight in tl' gym. The talent was surprising. The gym was well decorated for the Junioi Senior Prom. lt turned out to be a hit wit everyone. Yippee! ! Just when we are getting sick c school, we have Memorial Day off. JUNE The Seniors marched down the aisle of th church for their Baccalaureate Service. This was the last time the student body wc together. Yes, Senior Assembly was her again. The awards were presented an then-rank cards. See all you underclas: men next year. Some of the Seniors envied the underclas: men, the underclassmen envied the Senior: Well, it comes sooner or later.
