Foreword Let's talk sense to the American people. Let's tell them the truth, that there are no gains without pains ........ What do we mean by patriotism in the context of our times? . . . A patriotism that uts country ahead of selfg a patriotism which is not short, frenzied outbursts of emo- P tion. but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime. These are words that are easy to utter. but this is a mighty assignment. For it is often easier to fight for principles than to live up to them. . Adlai Stevenson it e. The students who graduated from this and other schools across the country shared in the joys and grievances of this memorable period in our history. What the future holds for this Class of 1970 is difficult to ima- gine at this time. I am sure this will be a time of great challenge. The many problems facing our nation will in part be solved by the youth of today. The crying need for solving our urban prob- lems, the necessity of solving the many problems connected with the pollution of our natural re- sources will provide the most re- sourceful of our youth with a task worthy of their ambitions. I wish to congratulate this class for its academic accomplishments during their years at South Otse- lic Central School. I am confident they will meet any task with the same degree of success they have exhibited during the past four years.
