Later on Sandra Alger moved from our district. In October we enjoyed a trip to the zoo and a Halloween party. At Christmas we made nearly all our tree decorations. GRADE THREE GRADE ONE A There are 23 children enrolled in our class. We have learned much by doing this year. when we were studying Fuels we went down to the basement to actually see how the boilers operate. In our study of Simple Machines, Mr. Cobb demonstrated many of those in the shop. Miss Personeus pointed out many of the simple machines found in the home, and Mrs. Justice showed us those which she uses in the cafe- teria. In the fall, we spent a day at Burnet Park Zoo in Syra- cuse, where we learned to identify many animals, the kinds of food they eat, etc. , which helped us when we studied the unit on the Zoo in our reading books. In March we plan to visit the Ashville Loomis farm to learn how maple syrup is made. GRADE TWO The second grade started the school year with an enroll- ment of 38 pupils, 25 boys and 13 girls. Barbara Baay, from Norwich, joined us in late September. Kay Lawrence, Sha- ron Oralls, Linda Widrick, Jay Graham, Ronald Lawrence, Jerry Warner, and Walter Albertina were newcomers to our school. Many of our girls and boys made birdhouses for the school fair, while others made vegetable animals, Most of our school fair projects were about our home gardens. We found out the vegetables that we should grow in our gardens. Nearly all the second grade pupils were in the Christmas play, The Littlest Angel, with Ann Wentworth of our grade doing a leading part. Our big project for the year is to learn to read well and get a good start in spelling. The third grade started the year with 35 pupils, 17 girls and 18 boys. On September 23, Shirley Bates moved to Nor- wich and on October 3, Carolyn White joined our group, com- ing from New York City. Duane Baay also joined us on Octo- ber 3, coming from Norwich. On October 19, Carolyn White went to Mrs. Ayer's grade one and her brother William came to us from Mrs. Balmer's fourth grade. We now have 20 boys and 16 girls. Because our annual Fall trip had to be omitted due to so much illness, we made a trip to Cortland in January. while visiting the Goodale Dairy, the A8tP store, Kresge's store, and the Cobakco plant, everyone had a good time. We were given orange sherbert at Goodale's, balloons and a candy bar at 25 Kresge s and two fresh donuts at the Cobakco plant, for which we thanked them all. FOURTH GRADE We have a nice group of 4th graders, 13 girls and 12 boys. As much as we all seem to enjoy school, we don't always give the impression we're anxious to learn. Our favorite subject is probably Free Time, and I'm positive the thing we all do best is talk. We do have our days off, however, when we study real hard. Ca! GRADE FIVE M The most interesting of our studies has been about the early settlers. We decided to collect items from this period to display at the School Fair. This collection included such things as a sausage stuffer, old cooking utensils, old-fashioned clothing, spinning wheel, hatchet, buttermaking equipment, and building tools. There was an announcement of a Christ- mas Party and Dance held at Beaver Meadow 50 years ago. You could dance all evening and have your supper, too, for twenty-five cents. Much interest was shown in a 100-year old wall map of Chenango County. Man The GRADE FIVE B The enrollment in this section of the grade in September was 15 boys and 13 girls. Linda Rogers entered the 14th of October and was transferred into the Norwich School on No- vember 26. We have won the Highest Attendance banner twice during the first 15 weeks. We feel very proud to have had this honor. This group is well represented in the 4-H, religious instruction and Music, is ,ii GRADE SIX Our class of 29 members made up a play about 'Early and How He Lived. H This was presented in a school assembly in October, The Sixth Grade Safety Club was formed in November. officers are: President, Leslie Miles: Vice President, Richard Nealg Secretary, Nancy Burrowsg News Reporter, Joette Moore.
