Rogers, S. Dutton, E. Silvernail, Teacher, Mrs, Balmer, School is a brand new experience for our five and six year olds, There are many, many things to learn, one of the most important and sometimes the hardest is how to work and play with other children, Our first experience in group living was to build a grocery store We all brought things from home to make our store the success that it was, Ir1 February, we gave a Valentine Party for the first grade, This gave us experience not only in working together, but in planning, entertaining, and doing things for others, We built a post office and wrote letters to sick classmates to let them know we missed them, These we mailed ourselves on a visit to the South Otselic Post Office, At the present time we are working together to build a train. Each child will have a part in making this and when it is finished we will all have the fun of playi.ng in it, T Wi FIRST GRADE NEWS We have twenty-eight children enrolled in First Grade, We have a very busy program planned for this year, Most of us have experienced the thrill of reading our first book and are looking forward to a trip to the library for books we can really read, We are doing many things to develop better muscular coordination as well as creative ability, We have done ringer painting, easel painting, clay modeling, various crayoning techniques as scratchboards and the flat strokes, We enjoyed a trip to the fire Stat10I1 from which we learned many new words, We have learned many new songs and have organized a Rhythm Band, We also just completed a Unit of work on Boats, SECOND GRADE NEWS The second grade is very large this year with thirty-seven pupils, twenty-three boys and fourteen girls, The girls are having much better attendance so far this year, We are busy trying to improve our reading, and attempting to conquer that new subject--Spelli.ng, For our health work we are making charts for good meals, THIRD GRADE NEWS The third grade had a nice trip to Mr, David Johnson's Mink Farm, They learned many things about the little animals and decided which one they would like in a cape or coat, They wrote 'Thank you notes to Mr, Johnson, Mr, Justice and Mr, Ryther, and enjoyed the answers to these notes, Since we are studying about different materials, this visit was of especial interest, Recent films shown to grades two and three on 'Courtesy' and 'King Cotton were enjoyed, We are trying to be like the children who showed school courtesy. Our Spanish class, with Miss Patterelli as teacher, is much enjoyed We are leaming to express words and short sentences in Spanish as well as to understand directions in Spanish, Three of our girls, Rene Marcy, Joette Moore, and Judy Church are now I-Vette cheerleaders, They have matching costumes and are well received by the audiences at the basketball games, FOURTH GRADE NEWS This year's Fourth Grade is the largest yet, numbering thirty-three, The only newcomer to our clas is Nancy Dutton who came to us from Baldwinsville, At the present time, G-4 has been hit pretty hard by the measles, Fifteen students were absent on November 173 maybe it was the measles, or perhaps the report cards going home on that day had something to do with it, Suppose?
