C L U B N E,W S Q The Merr akers gg Club has 15 members from Junior and Senior High School. e o icers are: President, Emily Greene, Vice-President, Marilyn Green, Secretary, Irene Moore, Treasurer, Mary Ann Hall, News- reporter, Evelyn Smith, Cheer and Song Leader, Phoebe Ryan., A nu ber of the girls took part in the County Style Revue in August. Joy Angell and Betty Thompson are in the County 4H Band. Joy Angell is the County Council member from this section. These girls have helped with the care of the gardens and the canning of its products. In the food unit the use of soy bean products in our diet was the special interest. Harriet Sartwell is the assistant leader and Jessie Wynn the leader. The Otselic Workers 4H Club has 20 members. The officers are: Pres- ident, Jacf I'HommedIeu, 'Vice-President, Donald Pickard, Secretary, Lindy Stillman, Treasurer, James Dutton, Cheer and'Song Leader, Rupert Pearson. This club and the Merrymakers club meet once each month in the school build- ing. Games and instruction are planned for both clubs in joint session. During the last three months of the year even the business meetings were together because Mr. Grimes, the leader, was released from the school Ag department for work elsewhere. The Jolly Junior 4H Boys' Club is divided into two groups this year, grades 4,5, and 6 in one group and grades 6,7, and 8 in another. The officers of the younger group are, President, Donald Sheldon, Vice-President, Kenneth Sheldon, Secretary, Robert Moore, the officers of the older group are, President,Jack Button, Vice-President, Dale Green, Secretary, Levi Locke, Treasurer, Jon Lamb, Newsreporter, James Clough, Song and Cheerleader, Hugh Church. We have studied the different breeds of chickens, the rearing and managing of the poultry flock, and the raising of calves through the use of colored slides. Our most important community project was collecting over S80 worth of waste paper and metal to turn in to the govcrnment.foreuse.in the war. ' The Jolly Junior 4H Girls' Club has 29 members this year. The officers are: Presfdent, BeEhlCrandEll, Vice-President, Mary Wasilew- ski, Secretary, Alice Crandall, Treasurer, Ruth Dutton, Song Leader, Marilyn Kellogg, Newsreporter, Juanita Buyea, Cheer Leader, Wanda Olds. Many of these girls made aprons for their sewing unit. Darning socks, sewing on buttons, and sewing up rips in clothing have been activities of most of the girls to help in saving materials in the war time. The Science Club, with Miss Church as adviser, purposes to develop int- erest in science and aptitude in fundamental skills. This year we have worked in the field of elementary chemistry, preparing and' studying the properties of oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide. We have bent glass and distilled water. The officers of the nResearch.Chem1stsn are: Pres., Kenneth Graves, Vice-Pres., Lois Hakes, See., Wanda Armstrong. The Chef's Club was orgahized under the direction of Mrs. Nielsen with the following officers: President, Robert Richer, Secretary, Jim ie Dutton, Treasurer, Junior Kenyon. We have made our own aprons and are now learning some of the fundamental rules in cooking. Later we will actually cook muffins. cakes. etc. The Dramatic Club was formed for the purpose of learning some of the more fundamental things connected with acting technique. Stage pictures, gestures, footwork, facial expression and voice were covered in the dis- cussions and-demonstrations. The F.F.A. was organized by the boys in Vocational Agriculture to further the agricultural interests of the community. This year the boys sold popcorn and chocolate milk at the movies, sold candy, and sponsored a pancake supper to help pay a debt incurred last year. The officers are, President, Jay Halbert, Vice President, Eugene Wood, Treasurer, George GraV65S Secretary. Leslie Shadel Inaugurated as a recreational club with the purpose of teaching social dancing to those who could not dance, the Dance Club grew into one of the school's largest activities. Boasting forty-seven members, the club chose Jack L'Hommedleu as president, Elizabeth Tibbens as vice-president, and Ray Curtis as ' secretary and treasurer. Showing results in the acquisition of dancing ability, social poise and grace, the dance club has proved a worthwhile addition to the activities of S. O. C. S. The Model Club has six members. The officers are as follows: Pres- ident, Jack f'Hommed1eu, Vice-President, Roland Pettit, Secretary, James Halbert, Treasurer, Jay Halbert. We organized in January under the direction of Miss June Vetter and had our meetings every other Thursday. The Knitting Club was organized in December under the supervision of Miss Robinson or the-purpose of knitting an afghan for the Junior Red Cross. There have been from ten to sixteen girls present for the weekly meetings.

N., has been to protect health and to pre- vent illness. .During the school year, the following are some of the areas in which these aimsghave functioned at South Otselic Central School. Corrective Dental Program clinics f 1 1 , or mmun zation against diptheria and vaccination to prevent smallpox, physical examination, notification to parents of physical defects found, first-aid for injuries received in the school during school ' hours as well as for injuries, other minor ailments and infections sustained in out-of-school hours. Special programs have been presented in the fields of better nutrition and prevention of communicable disease.
