In October, 1979 Princi- pal, Frederick Todd, Sr. asked his student body to tell their parents what South Oak Cliff will be like in the future. He stated thatthe school would be- come great and upon en ter- ing the building you would see Education in Action He stated, '94 Changing Image will come. November, 1983 Princi- pal, Dr. Fredrick D. Todd, Sr. has seen the image of his school change and con- tinue his challenge for the 80's. Dr. Todd, Sr., who is responsible for the leader- ship and accountability of 2,462 students and a staff of 159, admonishes that we must accomplish a desig- nated task: TABS and TAPS test scores will im- prove. Students will have two to three hours per night of homework. They must pass English and Math in order to move on to the next course other- wise they will be retained. He stated, The only way to learn how to read is to READ. You can't get a grade on potential, you must perform! Do not at- tempt to hide behind your inadequacies! Dr. Todd informed stu- dents and parents that all instructors will be on grade level: Power-writing, note taking, outlining etc. will be part of all student pro- grams. Teacher The Year Robert E. Edison If you want to know what is the latest happenings in politics, education, or school activities just point yourself in the direction of Room 120 and ask to speak to Mr. Robert Edison. ln other words, Robert Edison is perhaps the most informed instructor at South Oak Cliff High School. Mr. Edison has spent the last five years ofa thirteen year teaching career at South Oak Cliff He teaches Black American Studies and African Studies. He served as the social studies department team leader during the fall semester. Professor Edison is a native of Louisville, Kentucky. He is the son of Mr. Kr Mrs. L. C. Edison. He is married and has three children, Chris, a sophomore at Spruce, Omeka in the 4th grade at Sarah Mosely, and Lindah Kaidria in pre-school. He obtained an A.A. Degree from Southwestern Christian College, a B.S. Degree from East Texas Dallas, State University, and a M.A. Degree fro Robert is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, NAACP, and the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History. He attends Fourth Avenue Church of Christ. Up Program. the purpose of success. Students as well as facul ty are surprised to know that Mr. Edison got into education by accident. His original career goal in volved a degree in in terna tional relations and to work for the State Depart ment in Africa. His love for black youth caused him to remain in education. As a youth he was advised That the historical exis tence of black people in America make them start last in the race of life must run faster or forever re main behind. This advice inspires him to dedicate his time to the NAACP Youth Council. S.O.C. Stu dent Senate and the Close Robert E. Edison lifes philosophy is, Each man must live in a way that when he stands face to face with death he can look back at a life that was not lived in vain .
