alvin Issac A tragedy occurred on the night of October 18, 1974 at the Cotton Bowl clash between South Oak Cliff and Pinkston High School. In this tragedy Calvin Issac, a junior gridder for SOC was injured tackling Ricky Spillman of Pinkston on a kick off return. No one had any idea of how serious the injury was but there was a sudden silence in the crowd. The saying goes When you get knocked down get up and try it again, but the saying was not useful this time. Calvin was rushed to Parkland Hospital where he underwent surgery for a broken neck which had been broken down to the third and fourth vertebrae. Although the scene was quite frightening, the spectators built their hearts up again and cheered the game on. SOC went on victoriously to win 54-6 . The most crucial point of all came Monday, October 21, when it was stated that Calvin had been given '72 hours to live. But, his hours were shorter than what they had anticipated . At 1:30 p.m. Calvin Issac passed away. Let us all bear in mind that life can be precious but so short for an individual. No one ever knows when their time will come . It's such a heartbreak for many to know that it ended in such a tragic way. Surely Calvin had experiencedquite a bit, but it seems that God wanted him to experience the Road to Glory. By Ross Moore
