GOLDEN BEARS, is no meaningless expression to the students of South Oak Cliff High School, it is a phrase expressing pride, spirit, and togetherness within the Administration, Faculty, and the Student Body. We, the 1975 Den Staff, are proud to pres- ent you with a book filled with activities and honors of student life academically, socially, and athletically. Our theme, Simply Beautiful, will help us remember the many beautiful, countless, invaluable experiences we shared throughout the year. In this tragedy Calvin Issac, a junior gridder for SOC was injured tackling Ricky Spillman of Pinkston on a kick off return. No one had any idea of how serious the injury was but there was a sudden silence in the crowd. The saying goes When you get knocked down get up and try it again, but the saying was not useful this time. Calvin was rushed to Parkland Hospital where he underwent surgery for a broken neck which had been broken down to the third and fourth vertebrae. Although the scene was quite frightening, the spectators built their hearts up again and cheered the game on. SOC went on victoriously to win 54-6 . The most crucial point of all came Monday, October 21, when it was stated that Calvin had been given '72 hours to live. But, his hours were shorter than what they had anticipated . At 1:30 p.m. Calvin Issac passed away. Let us all bear in mind that life can be precious but so short for an individual. No one ever knows when their time will come . It's such a heartbreak for many to know that it ended in such a tragic way. Surely Calvin had experiencedquite a bit, but it seems that God wanted him to experience the Road to Glory. To our graduating seniors, I would have you to know that, as I congratulate you on your achievements and wish each of you Godspeed, I do so with a lump in my throat for it always saddens me to see each class depart. The past school year has seen us bring home to South Oak Cliff many trophies and meritorious awards, in every area of endeavor of our school. Your scholastic ability, leadership in Athletics, Drama, Concert Choir, Band, R O T C, Mathematics and Business Education to name a few, prove that you have made well of the opportunities that thousands have wasted, and countless others have been deprived of. Though you have, in- deed, done well I admonish you not to regard this as your finest hour .... do not think of this as Finishing School, for if you do, you are surely finished!
