WE 'ENIQR QW? NJHFQL M1152-27 KWWL 9 WE TIGER ?: N . 5 j Nt' u j W Foreword Here it is-the 1950 TIGER-and are we proud of itll VVe like it and we hope you Will. We waited four years to put out a yearbook of our own, and at last our chance came. The staff, with the help of the Senior Class, worked from September to June of this past year to make this annual a memory book of the year's outstand- ing and important events. As the years go by, We hope that as you look through this 28th volume of the TIGER, you will rernernber the football games, basketball, baseball, track, the dances, plays, assemblies, classes, clubs, teachers and friends of our good old school days at South Norfolk High. H01-E SNIITH Ijditor'-in-Chief Uur School Spring, summer, fall or winterg rain or shine we marched faithfully to our old Alma Marnmyf' Although small, We are very proud of our Hhandsomev school, and try to maintain that well-kept appearance at all times. J. Lf' The one snow of the year which came just in time foi us to get a pictule enhanced our park and made us forget th many dlezuy xalny days. ALMA MATER C Tune: The Beflr 0fSai1zt Illaryj ' O, hail to South Norfolk, VVe sing of your praise. VVith pride in our hearts our voices we raise. VVe sing of your glory, Oh, long may it stand To guide us forever throughout all the land. CHORUS Hail, our Alma Mater, we proudly proclaim, South Norfolk will lead us to freedom and fame, And gladly Weill follow with spirit and truth The light that 'shines to brighten lives of valiant youth. DEDICATION This year the dedication of our annual goes to Nfiss Myrtle Smith, our librarian, who has unselfishly given her time to the students of South Norfolk High School. Whenever we go to the library we can be sure of finding Miss Smith faithfully at Work. And what an efficient worker she is! just take a look at our library. Always neat as a pinl In addition to her daily duties she is principal of night school. W'hen it comes to preparing for a class dance, hliss Smith is always on the spot to help with the decorations. If films are needed for an assembly or for class, Nliss Smith sees that We get them. Miss Smith also has a hidden talent-a detective! Yes, she usually finds the books that we so often misplace. You rate high with us, h-fiss Smith, and we are grateful for the helpful sug- gestions and advice you have given us ln our school work. BEST WISI-IES TO THE CLASS OF '50 compzfmfm of THE STUDENT COUNCIL Acknowledgments The Staff of the 1950 Tiger expresses their sincere thanks to those who have helped us and worked with us to make this annual successful. hfliss Leigh and hlr. Story were most co-operative by excusing students from school to get ads for the annual. VVhat a help lXfIiss Leigh was in de- livering rncsages to and from Ben! The faculty-how they helped us, and put up with so many of us always getting out of class to work on pictures or write-ups! VVhat fine work Smith St Weldon did on our individual pictures! Mrs. Chisholm had such good ideas about the senior personality pictures. Ben Leigh, our photographer for sport pictures, groups and eighth grades, was always on hand when we needed him- VVC especially thank him for coming to school early one Sunday morning to photograph a snow scene of the park! The art classes worked faithfully on division pages. Nfrs. Kelly, our art advisor, gave us suggestions that we are grateful for. Ruth Faircloth and Gracie Dail also worked with our art editor, Claudia Willis. The letter- ing was done by Nlelvin lXfIcPherson, and what wonderful letters he makes! Getting ads proved to be quite a job. Durvin Woniiiiack, Bill Grover, and Merill Hoggard accommodated us by using their cars. The generous support of our advertisers made this book possible-let's not forget to support them. Mr. Edwards and Mr. Golden of Printcraft Press gave us good sound advice on how to save money and put out a good annual, too. This year lvfiss Edith Bowles helped us set up the books for the sale of the annual. Last fall two delegates from the staff went to the Southern Interschol- astic Press Association at Xvashington 8: Lee University in Lexington. VVe feel that this trip was very profitable to the staff. And last, but by no means least, the staff wishes to thank you, Miss Hicks, for all you have done to help us. VVithout your advice and helpful suggestions what a struggle we would have had! Vlie spent a lot of time and good hard work on this yearbook, but We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it-even when we had to do it over three or four times! We hope you will enjoy it too.
