O'ZE.0l.7'O'Z . . . INCH there is again peace on earth and a hard-fought war has been won, it was inevitable that we select as our theme something pertaining to peace. We are looking forward seriously to a lasting peace-a peace that must be planned and worked for as vigorously and as persistently as we fought to end the battle. We must take our sister nations by the hand, as it were, in an attitude of brotherhood and march forward together to a world- wide peace. VVe realize the vastness of the miraculous discoveries of the atomic energy and radar contact with the moon. VVe realize, too, that we will be living in a machine age, the miracles of which are almost incredible. VVe realize the fact that we will never revert to the good ole days, but will plunge forward into a better world, better times, and better living. With this thought in mind we have chosen as our theme, Not back to the good old days, but forward to better. In developing our theme we have probably let our imagination run rampant-but then it has often been said that the imagination of the American youth of today can turn almost any situation, however serious, into a humorous one. We seriously hope that, in putting together in pictorial form this, the twenty-fourth volume of THE TIGER, we have presented a book that will provide in future years many pleasant recollections to the students of South Norfolk High School. ,lilleC.Decl'icc1lt our lie: DONALD J. LANGLEY Mr. Langley, who was also a unanimous choice for our dedication, is completing his ninth year as instructor of the voca- tional classes for South Norfolk High School. He has been a constant supporter of our athletic teams. No matter how far away the game happened to be, he was always on hand to assist with the trans- portation problem. In selecting Mr. Langley for our dedica- tion, the staff wished to express their appreciation to him for his efficient class- room service and sympathetic under- standing of the problems of his pupils. ANNE SCOTT DAUGHTREY The Tiger Stal? was aware that in unani- mously choosing Mrs. Daughrey as one to whom we wished to dedicate our annual, we would encounter serious ob- jection from our sponsor-who was also Mrs. Daughtrey. But since we were sin- cere in our desire to give honor where honor is due, we insisted upon disregard- ing her personal wishes in this matter. We feel sure that her many friends will understand that she is not sponsoring this page. She has been a friend and adviser throughout our high school career and will remain in our memory for many years to come.
