'Black and Gold Memories , South New Berlin Central School, South New Berlin, New York, Starr Aldrich, Editor Alma In the Unadiila Valley, Where our Southtown lies. Stands our noble Alma Mater, Glorious to view. Mater South New Berlin, South New Berlin, Black and gold we love. Hail to thee our Alma Mater, South New Berlin, Hail. DEDICATION We, the graduating class of 1966, wish to dedicate our yearbook to Mrs. Johnson, Junior High English and Social Studies teacher and Yorker Sponsor, for all the help and guidance she has given us as individuals in our junior and senior high years. Many hours of Mrs. Johnson's time has been spent collecting and cataloging material, refinishing rooms for a Yorker Museum, that has been enjoyed by students and adults of the com- munity. 4 In 1935 Mrs. Grace Johnson first taught in the South New Berlin school. She taught fifth, sixth or seventh grades until 1954 when she was appointed Junior High Social Studies and English teacher. In December 1946 she organized the Yorker Clubs--a Junior Yorker group for 7th and 8th graders and a Senior Yorker group for 9th through 12th grades. These groups have been very active throughout the years. Each Christmas they fix baskets for the needy families. Tapes have been made of many of the senior residents of the community each person telling of their history. Each year the groups take a trip to places in New York State having historical significance. In addition to these trips the Yorkers take in the State convention and the district convention. During the centennial of the Battle of Gettysburg, two trips were made to Gettysburg, Pa. 14,000 to 15,000 miles have been covered on these Yorker trips. In 1962 the Yorkers decided to organize an historical museum for the community. Rooms over the town library were cleaned, painted and papered. Material was collected, catalogued and put on display. Each year on Memorial Day the museum is open to the public and several times during the summer the Yorkers have it open. This year through Mrs. Johnson we have been able to become acquainted with a most delightful girl from Sweden. She is Miss Marianne Rognvaldsson, a cousin of Mrs. Johnson's. Her picture appears below with Mrs. Johnson. 5 ADMINISTRATION Row 1: Merritt Ford; Robert Law; Elwood Fredrickson, President Row 2: Herbert Reed, Clerk; Harry Pike, Frank Kopko BOARD OF EDUCATION Ernest G. Youmans, District Superintendent Donald G. Preston, Administrative Assistant Individual leadership is vital to the United States' position as the world's leading nation. This type of leadership may range from being the head of a family unit to that of a large industrial or governmental unit. The young people who are students now will provide this needed leadership in the years to come. Schools try to develop leadership along with other virtues, but it is the individ- ual who must reach his own potential. 'Each one of you may have more potential than you realize. Try to find and develop this to its utmost. Congratulations and success to the Class of 1966 who are going out into the world as potential leaders. May your accomplishments exceed your present expectations.
