Home economics courses are offered to both boys and girls. Courses in sewing, cooking, home furnishings and maintenance, human re- lations, and child development are included in the program. Up-to-date facilities are provided in the sewing and kitchen rooms. There are outdoor recrea- tional facilities for pre-schoolers and room 201 is especially designed for the little ones in the child development classes.

M.A., A.S.U. Colleges require at least two years of a foreign language. International policies and events demand attention, as do their people and languages. Travel abroad means another language if you are to be understood. French, Latin, and Spanish are the foreign languages offered at -South Mountain. Mrs. Gilbert teaches French, Mrs. Rasbury teaches Latin, and Mrs. Johanson teaches Spanish. At least two years are offered in each of these languages. A third year Spanish class was offered this year and was taught by the head of the department, Mr. Palmer. Third year Spanish classes have been offered off and on, depending on the demand.

The sounds of a type- writer or some other business machine. Bookkeeping, short- hand, notehand, and business English are quieter classes. DECA classes, general business, and merchandising are of- fered also. Federal programs, the clerical and secretarial blocks have classes that are about two hours long. These two block classes teach a wide range of topics, from how to dress to how to type. General business is a one semester course. The other semester is a class in careers.
