and li C :nl For those wishing to learn about art, for those wishing to improve their techni- ques, and for those wishing to refresh their memories, South Mountain has three teachers in the fields of ceramics, art history, and painting - Miss Hatta- baugh, Mr. Lewis, and Mr. Boothby. Mr. Lewis is the head of the art department. Miss Williams is the photography teacher and is also part of the art department. All photography students learn picture- taking techniques, care of equipment, and the entire process of photography from her. Yearbook and school news- paper photographers have all been in Miss Williams' class at one time or an- other. ' Paints, brushes, and paper are evidently the order of the day for this art student. This budding artist explains the style, technique, and colors used in one of her paintings. A John J. Boothby B.A., A.S.U. M.A., A.S.U. Alma Hattabaugh William R- Lewis Mary E. Mr. Mclntyre, a biology teacher, is also head of our science department. Not only biology, but physics, chemistry, earth and space science, and courses in general science are offered. Dissecting a fetal pig, smelling up the chemistry lab, and building an atom smasher are unforgettable events that bring many a smile to South Mountain students. Finding a paramecium- or see- ing the Big Dipper gives a sense of achievement to others. The teachers here are as varied as the courses. Mr. Canham, who teaches chemistry, is a qualified ham operator, and Mr. Mclntyre was a photographer before teaching and still does photog- raphy for a hobby. Mr. Sanders, who is a new addition to the science depart- ment, teaches both physics and math- ematics. Rebel students will find an able and qualified science staff. Alfred R. Andrews M.
