Great fun is what the ‘boys find in this activity, especially at the Hi-Y Shuffle which went over in the biggest way. The pur- ? BFA pose of the club is not only to have a feeling of good fellowship with all mankind, but -4 °Vo create, maintain, and extend throughout the school’ and community ‘high stand- ards of Christian character.’ One can find the boys doing many charitable acts in every way. Ever at your service are the girls in Ring Club. They have done such fine service wark as knitting for the Red Cross, making scrapbooks for Family Welfare and baking cookies for the Veterans at Christmas time. Miss Lamb and Miss Witherbee, co-advisors, are helping the girls to develop their personalities along social lines and to help them take their places in the community. The biggest and most exciting event of ithe year for the girls was the joint meeting with Hi-Y, where everyone had fun singing about the little peanut that was lost in the gutter. Football players don’t have merely their “love to keep them warm’ any longer, for Mr. Martzke’s ‘““M” Club boys did a wonderful act in presenting the school with three athletic blankets last year. And this isn’t all our letter boys have done. Each year they make our homecoming more enjoyable. Bright pom-poms can be got each year from any of the “M” Club boys who are doing a splendid job to arouse the interest of the entire school to the field of sports. “Ready, Willing and ‘Able.” This is one of the things that can be said about our “Cardo” service club. They are ever ready to create civic improvements and render service, not only to the school, but to the community. They have proved this by helping out annually with the Legion Halloween Party. We also can see these students at all our school functions, helping out by collecting the tickets, ushering, and checking details. “They have proved themselves efficient in every way, and we hope that those to come will appreciate their fine efforts. With the insignia of National Honor Society’s flaming torch and keystone before them, a number of South Milwaukeeans each year are initiated on the basis of character, leadership, scholarship, and service. Mr. Hintz, chairman, Mr. Hein, Miss Witherbee, Miss Kollath, Mr. Warner and Mr. Whitenack are the Honor Society Faculty Committee. This year’s Honor Society members have sponsored the project, the “Picture Honor Roll”, which gives recognition to students doing out- standing work in one subject. sae M. Ruloff, B. Brodman, B. J. HESE are the girls that put it over—our Girl Reserve executives. Janis McPher- son, President, at the reins with Louise Miller, Vice president, helping her, have made our Girl Reserve offices outstanding this year. ‘This year’s assemblies have been very enjoyable and more to the taste of the students. “How come?” you may ask. Many do not realize the great efforts the Assembly Council puts forth ito make them so. They are the ones that make all the contacts for next year’s assemblies as well as this year’s. Perhaps some of you have received a flashy red and white ticket, generously given to you by a member of Junior Senate for a traffic offense. Under the supervision of Mr. Vieth, the Senate has done a wonderful job of controlling the bicycle traffic, and has run the lost and found department. Perhaps many of you have even got a bargain at one of the Senate auctions which are held twice a year. The officers, Marguerite Baylerian, president, Sophie Koechakian, vice-president, and Ardis Haldemann, secretary, have done a good job of traffic control. Proud! That’s what we are! Just down right proud of our Senior High Student Council. You needn’t ask why, either. We all know of the great honor paid to our school, as well as to John Voth, in electing him president of ‘all the Student Councils in Wisconsin. And something that will forever live in our memories is the observance of “Hobo Day” for Homecoming. This was made possible through the “toil and sweat” of the council members and Miss Daub. We hope that the student councils in years to come will promote such school spirit. di 5 7 fA , — age” 7. Aha” CLae O - . — —— —— a a f a , ( + é o - f 7 4 J—F.— ae or f 5 Gj == é yp AY e, _—? Those helping the organization are: Advisor Carolyn Smith, Officers: Delores Boden, President; Delores Kuzminski, Vice President; Jean Lindemirth, Secretary ; as well as the twenty members. Their most important event this year was the candy sale at basketball games. With this money they bought yarn to help the Red Cross. That dream of every girl’s heart (whether or not she admits it)—being a good homemaker—is brought down to earth and practiced by Sohoco members. They learn of etiquette, home management, dressmaking, and every good thing that goes into a home. And their results are beautiful and delicious to sample. Funny Faces! You’ll find many of them being created at Cartoon meetings, while Oil and Chalk members look at art from an entirely different angle. Many students find expression for their talents in these two clubs, and enjoy pouring their inner souls into clay figures, or creating ideas on paper. Be seeing you in the funny papers! ar Congratulations! The A Cappella choir mambers can be very proud of themselves for the successful job they have been doing this year. Something new they have tried is the choral arrangement of popular music. We would like to hear more of the pieces such as ‘Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.’”’ Miss O’Leary has done fine work in developing an appreciation for beautiful music and in developing skill in reproducing music of worth. Colorful street parade, massed band concert, evening performance, maneuvering in - joyful procession down the football field—these were the features, and many more, that kept the band busy throughout this school year. During the football season it LY was pleasing to the eyes of many of the spectators to see Jean Gates and her troop of drum majorettes strut down the field. With a library of various types of music, the concert orchestra creates appropriate atmosphere for plays and festivals given during the year. Pep Band stimulates enthusiasm and good feelings at the basketball games and out- ot-town football games. Ah! What have we here? Musicians? Well in time to come, S. M. will be proud to have educated them. Piano Club has dene outstanding work this year and should - © get credit for it. Candy sales after school (we all love those), concerts, and then the top hit of the year, their “Truth or Consequences” in assembly. Or can’t you recall Bogadi’s “Dance of spring?” “Makes you wanta dance music” ... And how! The way our dance band gets in there and goes to town is just plain — super! “Bubs” Leist and his hot trumpet, Jim Helminak and his clarinet, Wilbur Ogden at the piano, and the rest of the boys have made history in our school. And the Social Com- mittee, with Miss Johnson as adviser, does much to promote the social spirit here. ‘The social program, with everything lined up from September to June, is their job —and the successful parties and dances given this year speak well for their efforts. ‘The Janitors have done a swell job in making us enjoy school. By this we mean the school is always a bright and clean place where we may be able to pass away at least eight hours a day. “Ready, fellows? Curtain’s going up!” One at the ropes, another at the lights— a busy life is the one led by every stage crew member. Many school functions are dependent on Mr. Starkey and the boys for lighting effects for dances, stage sets, and such. Without their manipulating “Mr. Mike” for assembly, the programs would not be as interesting as they are. “Eat and be Merry!” The Noon Hour Council this year has surely tried to make the latter part of this statement true to fact. Miss Ockershauser and the six members have planned entertainment for those eating their lunch at school. This is done by providing a great assortment of games, holding educational movies, and dances that are enjoyed by all. I see—I see—What do you see? Whether it be School, Biology, United States History, or any other interesting educational movie, we can depend upon Mr. Shreve and the boys for the fine work they have done in making our movies more enjoyable. Coach Martzke started his third season as head basketball coach with some good prospects including four letter winners. The returning lettermen were Tom Clark, a forward, Leo Morowski, forward, Rudy Ramstack, center, and Alex Walczynski, a guard. The rest of the team was composed of boys up from the “B” team and fresh- man teams including John Mann, Bill Nagy, Nazar Hajinian, Ray Mildebrandt, Jim Hackmeister and Bernie Kroll. After losing the first six games, the Red Rockets hit their stride and ended the season with a five hundred average by losing seven games and winning seven games, leaving them in a tie for fourth place. Only two players will be lost through graduation, Tom Clark, a forward, and Alex Walezynski, a guard.
