Samantha I Seventh and eighth grade students at South Marshall are required to take basic courses such as math, science, language, and social studies. We also have a wide variety of electives. This year many students found two new classes on their schedule cards. These classes called mandate and enrich naturally aroused the curiosity of the students. It didn't take long to discover that mandate was the education department's new name for required courses such as music, art, health, and physical education. Enrich, short for enrichment, was the new name for nine week classes in computers, creative writing, business, and map reading. Freshmen begin earning high school credits in the ninth grade. Many students get their first taste of advanced classes with algebra and chemistry during this year. They also have electives such as home economics, general business, industrial arts, and agriculture from which they may choose. .3 fl: .. -. ,,,f Ty ..,,,, ,A Tuna'---. At South, there is time for talking, laughing, and playing. For the athlete, softball, basketball, and ping pong are available. For those who like to socialize, the Rebel Resters are a good place to go. Pep rallies and assemble programs also offer a change of pace during the school day. Crystal Ford and Renita Hargis relax outside at lunch. The Pep Band plays for a game at the high school. The Crush team running a play against North Marshall. Angie Myers, Gena York, and Eva Filbeck share a joke at lunch. FIQEQJMEN ' fu, Liftl Teddy Thompson demonstrates his talent on drums. Craig Collins, Kevin Chandler, and Phillip Castelberry discuss the day's events at lunch. jeff Clark watches the basketball action. Chad Alderman checks out some eighth grade girls. Jon Clark enjoys his lunch in the cafeteria. It seemed so big when we came here. The ninth graders ignored us completely. There were so many teachers and none of them seemed to really belong to us. But now, everything is so familiar. The seventh graders seem so young and immature. The teachers are almost like friends. Sometimes we're even bored and look forward to something new and bigger and more grown-up. So we continue to look forward to the future and our dreams of excitement and adventure. Lana Cothran leads cheers at a ballgame. Lee Edwards and Kevin Holsapple dropping dollars at lunch while Janet Jones looks on. Michele Myers practices for rifles during band.
