WALTER E. BRADLEY, DEAN OF S.M.C.C. South Macomb Community College owes its present success largely to one man . . . Dean Walter E. Bradley. The students of S.M.C.C. wish to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Dean Bradley for making it all possible. Mr. Bradley was born in Beaverton, Michigan, and graduated from Vassar High School, Vassar, Michigan. He received his B.A. and B.S. from Michigan State Normal College, and went on to receive his M.A. in school administration from the University of Michigan. His teaching career began in a one room country school house, where he taught kindergarten through eighth grade for one year, after which he returned to Michigan State Normal to teach and do further graduate work. In 1940 he joined the Van Dyke School System to teach physics and chemistry in the Lincoln High School. Subsequently he became counsellor and high school principal. In 1950 he became director of Secondary Education. During his sixteen years in Van Dyke his one objective had been to establish a college in the school district. This however, was not possible until a new high school was completed. In 1953 through his consistent efforts South Macomb Community College was established. Classes began in the fall semester of 1954 with lVIr. Bradley as the college's first dean. Dean Bradley is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Ka graduate honor education societyj, at Wayne State University. He is also a member of a number of organi- zations which include the Michigan Education association, Michigan Secondary Schools Association, National Association of Public School Adult Education, and the State Forensic Council. . . .A dedicated man, . . . our dean. 4
