During the past year at South Lewis, a Boys' Athletic Association was organized for the purpose of en- couraging athletic compeiition, advocating good sportsmanship and strengthening the school spirit toward athletics. In organizing the B. A. A. , the basic format upon which the G. A.A. was formed in 1963-64, was adopted. A Varsity Club was established whereby any student having earned a varsity letter could become a member. Two representatives of the Varsity Club were selected to serve with the officers of both the B. A. A. and G. A. A. of the Athletic Council. The basic ideals of athletic competition, sportsmanship, and spirit, incorporated in the B.A. A. we hope will develop to their fullest capacity at South Lewis as the years go by. INTRAMURALS The intramurals sports program at South Lewis is well rounded to provide enjoyment for the students interested in participating in sports. The Boys' intramural program consists of badminton, ping -pong, volleyball, and basket- ball. Basketball intramurals are designed to give all boys in school a chance to become more familiar with the game . The intramural games provide opportunities for the boys to use the fundamentals of basketball in a game. There are four teams which compete against each other in two divisions.. The first division con- sists of seventh, eighth, and ninth grades, and the second division of the tenth, eleventh, and twelth grades . Ping -pong singles and badminton singles and doubles are played in a tournament competition. The Girls' intramural program consists of field hockey, basketball, volleyball, and softball. The pro- gram is set up with teams competing against each other in all of the above mentioned games. Each of these fields are designed to give each girl an opportunity to partici- pate in a game in which she is interested. Incorporated with the intramural program the G.A.A. has organized one playday so far t-his year and plans to have another. Participating in our basketball playday were Lowville Academy, Beaver River Central, and Port Leyden Central schools. Another playday in which volleyball and minor sports will be featured is planned. The purpose of the intramural program is to provide all students with the oppor- tunity to take an active part in sports. It helps to promote the development of sports- manship and school spirit together with a sense of fair play. tx BASEBALL With many new prospects lined up and with many of last year's players returning, the coaches feel that this should be a fine season. The falcons will be in- augurating their new diamond, fac- ing A.C . A . C . April 29th. ,-A 63 I 5
