I ss lssfory The fall of 1950 began our hrgh school career at S L Hrgh Many of us had come to S L durrng seventh and erghth grades but th1s year was drfferent Now we were Freshmen, ready to take our place along wrth the upper classmen rn sports dances and other acuvmes Offrcers of the Freshmen Class were Tom Steckbeck Presrdent Shrrley Arnold V1ce Presrdent James Wtse, Secretary Don Achenbach,Treasurer Our Freshmen year was the trme when we chose our class colors of blue and gold and or dered pennants, caps and emblems March 9 was the date of our class party, whrch was rn rooms 109 110 On the last day of school we Journeyed to Hershey Park along wrth the other students of S, L, H S As Sophomores we came back to S L. ready to prove our worth as scholars and athletes Offrcers for the Sophomore year were Tom Steckbeck, Presrdent Don Achenbach, Vrce Presrdent Shuley Arnold, Secretary Glorra Wolfe Treasurer Thrs year we sported class Jackets rn our class colors In the sprrng a representatrve from Loren Murchrson Co came and took our orders for class rrngs In 1952 we embarked upon our Junror year wrth hxgh hopes for a successful year wrth the a1d ofa new gym audrtorrum and several new classrooms Junror offrcers were Don Achenbach Presldent Tom Steckbeck Vrce Presrdent Shrrley Arnold Secretary Ioan Hoffa Tre asurer At the fxrst class meettng the class rrngs were drstrrbuted to the exclted ,Tumors and plans were made to go to market From then unt1l the follow mg March, we rarsed money rn thrs manner Our frrst class party was held on November 14 on the stage A class motto was selected The Door to Success Is Labeled Push was the motto chosen A commrttee was appornted to make plans for the brg event the Junror Senlor Prom On Aprtl 18 the Prom was held rn the gym w1th the theme as The Rose Festrval It was a semr formal dance and the Jumors and therr guests the Senrors danced under colored lrghts streamers and flowers The dance ended wrth the Junrors srngrng After Graduauon Day as a farewell to the Senrors Hot humtd weather ushered 1n our Senror year, forcmg many of us to forget our studxes and go swrmmrng after s choo 1. Offrcers were Bruce Shaver Presrdent Don Achenbach lst Vrce Presrdent Reta McK1nney, 2nd V1ce Presrdent Shuley Arnold Secretary Glorra Wolfe, Treasurer The Yearbook Staff began theu plans for THE IONIAN In addrtron to helprng at the refreshment stand at the S L Farr we also held a bake sale there rn order to rarse money for our many proJects The brg money maker for the class was the Land1s8t Landrs Club As salesmen, the Senrors sold hun dreds of artrcles to help a worthy cause therr treasury On March 13 the Semor Play Let Me Out of Here was presented, and was enjoyed by all Plans were made for the trrp to W ash rngton D C and everyone eagerly awatted the day of departure Meanwhrle, there were commencement rnvrtatrons name cards and other detarls to be taken care of before the day of graduauon Of course rt was not all work and no play for the Semors The Junror Semor Prom on Aprrl 24 wrll be a pleasant memory for many years to come Other partres games, and the lrke were well attended by the Class of 54 throughout the year a g e Q s p . As I mlngle w1th the crowd I see Madame LORETTA BICKSLER gowned ln one of her own dazzlrng creatrons talkrng to Mr RONALD HERNLEY He has Just become the proprretor of Mother Hernley s Haven For The Hungry Whlle I was dr1nk1ng my frurt punch Qhrcl h1C', Mrs RETA MCKINNEY Brrch bubbhng wlth the good news of just havrng become a gr and mo th er knocked the goblet from my hand As I stood there dumbfounded the d1st1ngu1shed Herr DENNIS FOX the tnterrupter of Ger man sentable I wandered off 1nto the gardens where by the lrght of the moon I bumped lnto Mr FRED SHERTZER, owner of the Internatronal Swatzy Watzy Mtnlature Golf Parks engagmg 1n a fast card game w1th Mr JOHN BAYLOR, Presrdent of the Custom Made Toothprck Corporatlon and Mr I. EDGAR BOLTZ. head of the F B L fFat Boys Instrtutej On my way back I heard a roarmg nolse as Mr ROBERT HIRSHBOCK arrlved at the reumon rn h1s twenty f1ve cyl1nder Jet Job La Gas Gobbler He was accompamed by Mr ROBERT ENGLE, who IS famous all over the world for hrs Ptggy Wrggy Ornkery On my way to the ballroom I passed the hbrary and peekrng through theke yhole I saw Dr BONNIE GIBBLE reclrnxng at the desk drssolved 1n a medrcal book After all that walkmgl decrded to refresh myself wrth some more soothtng frurt punch Asl was pourtng myself a thtrd dunk, someone suddenly slipped and fell rn the pool outsrde fortunately Mr THOMAS STECKBECK Presrdent of the Unlted Llfe Sav ers Umon, was present and he proceeded to rescue Mr JOHN MILLER who was bobbxng up and down sputrerrng wrldly He was escorted to the house where he changed clothes The reason for John s accrdent was traced to hrs demonstrauon of the new Walk Backwards Chrckens wh1ch he ralses on h1s ch1cken farm The demonstra txon was be1ng staged for the Gentleman Sod Pusher , BOB ULRICH who 1 hear IS very 1nterested tn ra1s1ng some of these Pedr Peeps . .
