C. Knowles now embraces seven grade schools. three nurseries, three kindergartens. three junior primary schools. and a junior- senior high school. VVith an increase in student enrollment of over twentv-five per cent. many more classrooms were added to house the in coming tide of students while the search for additional teachers continued through the vear. A new idea just recently adopted by this public school system was the cafeteria project with home economics expert. Nliss l.ucille Nix. in charge, Meals are now served in almost everv school in the dis- trict at much greater economy and effi- eiency. Another vital department. that of the maintenance division with Mr. James Bowers in charge. did the upkeep work and repairs for all the district schools. An interesting example of cooperation he' tween school officials and students was hrought to note last summer when fifteen Kitsap boys worked full time on the district maintenance crew.
