This year the Wolves in their third year under the capable coaching of Stener Kvinsland had an excellent season, not only because they won the Tri-County League Championship, but also because l943 marked the opening of the new athletic field. For the first time the players were able to participate on a field adjacent to the school. The Kitsapians were one of the eight undefeated and untied teams in the state. Probably the highlight of the year was the South Kitsap-Bremerton game October 30. They defeated their traditional rival 7-6, playing knee-deep in mud on the opposing team's field. They had not been scored on before that time and finished the season with only I2 points against them. There are thirteen seniors graduating from the squad this year five of them being on tte first eleven Quarterback Holbrook Bunting was on the first string and entered the Marine Corps at the end of the first semester The players elected Pat Bunten as honorary captain for the season and voted Berlin Babe Miles the Inspirational Trophy Four mem bers placed on the mythical All Tri County Team They are Jud Heathcote end Chauncey Vaughn guard Leroy Shuey tackle and Pat Bunten halfback In the annual Owls Wolves game at the end of the season next year s team won I3 I2 in an exciting game The second string also won the championship in their league during the pigskin schedule The ehampi Mattingly clears he way for Bunten in a left end run Smith B Higgins J Dombrowski L Shuey J Peterson E Brown E Honodel D Peterson manager B Rylander manager SECOND ROW J Heathcote R Johnson B Hull B Lippert B Slpe D Bryant Ci Shaw C Vaughn J Rogers C Mattingly G Heathcote THIRD ROW L Lippert manager R Waldron B Stone A Comstock J Pope B Gaskill H Kinney H Bunting B Miles P Bunten J Casavant S Danielson Coach Kvinsland . , . They were defeated only by the North Kitsap Vikings of Poulsbo, who came through with the cup at the end of the season. By taking second place in the league, the Wolves were eligible for the West Central District play-offs at Clover Park, near Tacoma. Here they played thier best ball of the year, winning the majority of their games. The strain of five games in five nights was too much for the boys, and they were defeated for the third time in the season by North Kit- sap in the consolation play-off for second place. , Center and captain honors of the year went to Jud Heathcote, who led the team in scoring and was chosen unanimously on the All-Tri-County Basketball Team, as well as on the West Central District Team. Shorthand, typing, office practice, bookkeeping, and print shop are the classes crowded with those who plan a business career following graduation. These courses directly prepare young people for specific business' world positions. Shop classes have two objectives-to begin the training of future mechanics and to lay a mechanical foundation for boys that will prove helpful in their future life. Beginning with the seventh grade the boys receive wood- working arid mechanical drawing instruction which they may continue through high school. For the girls, classes in sewing and cooking are offered. No matter what work a girl later chooses these subjects are of infinite value to her. Many of the students continue these studies through both the junior and senior high school. Two years of typing study is offered to commercial majors.
