NX Alf This year Kitsap underwent more changes than ever before in the history of the school. 1941 brought a brand new cafeteria with six new class rooms all in the new addition, and the prospects of a new auditorium to be started next year. This was the beginning of the two-lunch system, which the increased population made inevitable. 1941 saw Mr. Nelson exchanging his position as a faculty member for that of Corporal in the United States Army, and the addition of two new teachers to the already enlarged faculty. Com- petition will be tough when an attempt is made to live up to the record set by '41, ,,,,..---A-' ' ,mm wi ' eff-ilu-' 1 -'-' 3 : t. .f-3 Y 1' .. .M-v ,,j-u-'4- .ylqb 1 , nl ll! . '22 Joining the ranks of upper classmen this year, the juniors began their social fling with an Andy Hardy production that proved to be very much ot a success lt was about this time that the slang phrase l'll be a dirty old shirt began to really take hold at Kitsap and was soon joined by the old bag. Beano, the gunior's contribution to the carnival proved to be one of the main attractions there. lt was about this time the girls really began com- plaining about the draft catching their men. Miss Stillings and Mr. lvluyskens proved to be real inspirations for this class. ,litterbugging was becoming ever more popular. Open toes in shoes were being replaced by glass heels, The pompadour hair style was rapidly taking the place ot page boy and circular parts were still very stylish, The boys went around with their trouser legs rolled up to show the bright socks so popular then. C-lass suspenders and belts were taking the place ot the old elastic standbys. A tew of the boys event went so tar as to comb their hair this year. tg' an 223 . his Qibb 2 L fir 'H- ,firg X1 ,gg ' 4' --r lit Vx 7 41 1 1 S-1 Sli? ' ' g z Q - 1. 5 ' -3 os , ' . . I Being formally introduced into the senior high this year, the sophomores spent their time getting accustomed to the routine. Doing more than their share for the carniw val, this up and coming class sold name pins and sponsored a roulette wheel lt was this class that first adopted class sweaters Although social activities aren't sponsored by sophomores it was because of the enthus- iasm with which they entered into activities sponsored by upper classmen that these other things were such a success, Miss Fredrickson and Mr Lundberg were chosen to help this class for the next two years. lt was about this time that the girls blos- somed out with feathers in their hair for every occasion, The addition ot a kick plait in the front and back ot full skirts was rapidly becoming a rage Plaids were still being seen everywhere This, too, was the year that spring came so early. bringing with it an epidemic ot measles Remember? nt 'N a Harisw A 'Br H PEW at D wl rig 4 'vt t re A de sow C H r lx N u i7 Sloppy Joes and Wise cracking Hannahs on the campus and In the halls' Enthusnastlc suncere and hard working on the gob that s Kitsap ln clubs music and dramatlcs At each publnc performance of the year crowds flocked to the gym where the student actors and muslcuans paved the way for future trlumphs Clubs tradmonal and newly organnzed gave actlve students an outlet for surplus enthusrasm and energy Unnted by these extra curricular actnvutues Kutsap students learned to cooperate to get along to gether and reap the rewards of a year of honest effort ux 1 ilu ,mx 'Xxb iv Y i UR'-T ROW C 'rt'th,E Larawax l Bartholet, M Hanson, l Pmter, Miss Watson ZECOND ROW B Foonta-n, 1 Forsmark, M woiterl B Crlkshahlg, B Allen, B, Gibson THlRD ROW V, Colcny, l Rogers, V Heathcote, B Higgenbottom, l. johanson. . 0' STU DENT COUNCIL Just imagine? Well over 2,000 spectators swarrned to Kitsap during the evening of its second annual Carnival To prove that the advertising by the Student Body Council, which consists of representatives from each class, really was worthwhile, there was a clear profit of S-ll8.l6 taken in from the Carnival. The final payment on the stage curtains, a large turnout for l-lomecomingf' and noon dances in the gym were other accomplishments for the Gang to be proud ot this year. With the help of the P. T, A, to cover the amount due. the students also have a new movie projector that shows pictures for education and entertain' ment. TORCH CLUB Yes. there is a shrinkage in the honor society, pictured below, according to the number that have be- longed in the past years1 the reason being that the standards in the grading system, required of one to become a member, have been raised. One of the popular concessions at the carnival was the inauguration of the movies by the Torch Club, Super smarty of the smarties is Mr, Muyskens, better understood as their govial advisor.
