The year 1939 and 1940 has seen the band improve and play for more social events than any other musical organization in the school. Always reliable and ready to entertain, the com- plete band has made appearances at such important events as the State Teachers' Institute held in the Civic Auditorium. Seattle, the Armistice Day program at school, and the Music Meet at Poulsbog and they put on a drill in formation at almost every football game of the season. rain or shine. The Pep Band, an organization of about twelve members of the band, has added much toward the promotion of school spirit. They have played faithfully at all basketball games, pep assemblies, and pep rallies and have always been willing to play for any other functions where their presence was requested. The music department has many accomplished instrumental soloists in the groups, and from the nine soloists sent to partici- pate in the solo meet at the College of Puget Sound in Tacoma, three were rated superior, and one, excellent. Representing the band at the meet were Estelle Buldoc. trumpet, and Junior Cosbey, trombone, who both rate superior: with Shirley Warner, violin, from the orchestra, rating superior: and Noma Menees, piano, rating excellent from the orchestra fucnly-six 66Superi0r99 at Music Meet QP S4 To ts . . Carlson, voice director, has been busier than usual this year. Establishing and perfecting a sophomore girls' nonette, a junior girls' sextette, a senior girls' quartet. and a senior boys' quartet besides directing the usual senior choir and regular chorus, has taken every free moment of Miss Carlson's time. Making more appearances than the other groups, the sophomore girls' nonette has entertained at a Thanksgiving program sponsored by the P.-T. A.. a Methodist tea, and other similar functions. The choir has made several appearances this year, singing at the Christian Church, the Music meet at Silverdale, the Veterans' Home, and, as is its usual custom, has gone caroling at Christmas time. Nine vocal soloists were sent to the music meet at Silverdale this year, this time being the first year Kitsap has sent vocal soloists, with three boys and six girls doing solo work.
