Marie Anf I derson face the mike at Associated Student Body i meeting. 'E Y as s During its second year of existence the Student Body, under the leadership of the Stu- dent Council, established a number of successful new traditions and policies. Probably tops among the achievements for the year was Kitsap's Kolassal Karnival. with a queen, side shows. beano, dancing, skill games and all the trimmings, which netted over S200 to almost finish paying for the stage equipment. The plaque system was established this year, giving a plaque to each graduating senior who would have earned a letter in any major activity. During Christmas holidays the school enthusiastically welcomed back its graduates at a day and evening basketball game devoted to homecoming. Student day. when the classes are taught by student teachers, and faculty members just visit, was revived and the junior high climaxed the day with an all-school program. New policies established include Student Body exchange assemblies with other schools: a small program at every student body meeting. which is opened by the flag salute: and standing S. B. committees for the year such as ushering, ticket taking, and advertising. . A new school song. submitted by a student, was adopted by the councilx and in another contest the school's athletic field was officially named. .9 x Student 'K e gh! ouncil Back row: R. Lundberg, L. 'Q The underclassmen. the sophomores. the largest class in school, proved themselves true-blue Kitsapians by their spirit. and enthusiastic support of all activities. There are no social events sponsored by this group but they were very loyal in their support of all school functions. They led in the carnival by having Beano, to which the townspeople contributed prizes. This was the leading carnival money maker. They led in Torch with a large enrollment: in football there were a large number participating. The second team in basket- ball consisted almost entirely of sophomores and several of their f number played on the varsity. They were also active in baseball. tennis, and track. Under the very able instruction of Mr. Benson, the senior band has gone one more step this year on the road to perfection. The year 1939 and 1940 has seen the band improve and play for more social events than any other musical organization in the school. Always reliable and ready to entertain, the com- plete band has made appearances at such important events as the State Teachers' Institute held in the Civic Auditorium. Seattle, the Armistice Day program at school, and the Music Meet at Poulsbog and they put on a drill in formation at almost every football game of the season. rain or shine. The Pep Band, an organization of about twelve members of the band, has added much toward the promotion of school spirit. They have played faithfully at all basketball games, pep assemblies, and pep rallies and have always been willing to play for any other functions where their presence was requested. Making more appearances than the other groups, the sophomore girls' nonette has entertained at a Thanksgiving program sponsored by the P.-T. A.. a Methodist tea, and other similar functions. The choir has made several appearances this year, singing at the Christian Church, the Music meet at Silverdale, the Veterans' Home, and, as is its usual custom, has gone caroling at Christmas time.
