Anticipation is better than realization is said of most instances, but as for our Freshman year we were completely satisfied. Becoming acquainted with the rooms and teachers along with dodging the seniors who towered above us seemed an arduous task. The making out of our schedules for the ensuing year was an important step in shaping our future years. We thought that it was grand to move around all day according to the bell signals. Even homework was almost exciting to us because it was new and different. Since our Freshman year saw no class ofhcers, our activities were lim- ited. During the war, each Frosh was urged to buy war bonds and stamps which were obtainable in our homerooms. This was the year the Lizerette was put back into circulation for the first time since the beginning of the war. Many of our class- mates took an active part on the staff. The upper class activi- ties seemed to have many Freshman participants as in the Farmer's Parade. We retain many memories of that costumed parade. An important event in which many members of the class participated was the operetta entitled Words and Music, presented at Hazard Memorial Hall. One of the never to be forgotten occasions was Freshman Day when both boys and girls wore green ribbons. Finally june arrived, f x! xr--'xr-if il-if g Z . yet it seemed incredible that our Freshman year had come to an end. As sophisticated sophomores we attempted to live up to our title. Our first accomplishment was the election of class officers who were: President, Robert McNallyg Vice-Presi- dent, Lorraine Faucherg Secretary, Claire Lauriong Treasurer, Romeo Oullette. The principal event of the year was the Sophomore Hop conducted in the school auditorium during the Christmas season. On this- gala occasion Agnes Farrell was crowned Miss Sophomore. We were asked to write essays on Why Rationing is Necessary for a nation wide contest. The local winners were members of our own class, Beverly Gardiner and Natalie Peckham. Our outstanding basketball team was invited to the Boston Garden to play Woburn High School. Our team was well supported by the student body who were more than pleased to see South come through to victory. Before we realized it, june was here again and no longer would we be lower classmen but juniors at last. On entering our Junior year we were faced with the prob- lem of choosing our class rings. Because of the various designs offered it was a task to find a ring suitable to everyone. Once again we selected class officers. They were: President, Robert McNally, Vice-President, Alice Ann Rose, Secretary, Claire Lauriong Treasurer, Edward Coulter.
