The library assistants in this picture are: Kath-1 SERVICE CLUB Jule Ure, sponsor Maintaining a high standard of service, the Service Club completed another year 'of outstanding service to parents and tea- chers. Among the many duties performed by the girls are distribution ofthe morning bulletin, caring for children while their mothers are attending P.T.A., selling tick- ets, ushering at school activities, and as- sisting teachers in the morning, at noon, and after school. SOUTHERN, SPECTACULAR, . . x With' the words, Welcome to our 1961 ' Southern. Spectacular, we havs 'a great' show with the em- phasis onatalentff Margaret Asman and Ed Leib, the M.C,'s,' opened the fifth annual South School Southern Spectacular. The program, including two evening performances and a matinee, was pre- sented March 2 and 3. 4 , ' ' ' The hrst act was the South School Senior Band playing, under th e direction of Mr. Shumate, Thunderer March, Park Ridge Overture, and f'Tinr Lizzie. - Following the South School Band came an orig- inal composition by John Anderson and Denny Forester on the piano. The next act brought on the South tumblers turning fiips and performing other difficult stunts. The performance was sponsored by Mr. Keene. thisulpoint in the program a rib tickling demon-Q i stration by Lee Ann Block revealed the perils of a trjavelingtteacher. H ' T ' K .Most Broadwaylhoofers come. from New York, but.South Schoolhas its own.. 'They are Linda Petre and Marlee Frederick. ,They gave the show ra 'lift 1wfith'their number f7The' New York J azz. ' . , ,Mags-et'-Asman entertained the audience with a -vocal solo, 'fButtons and Bows. V -V ' 'I Then, came the Sky Riders doing marvelous tricks on the high ladders. Included in this -act were Diane Khuen, Barb Wilcox, and Karen Jacob. Also included in the matinee were Mary Symons and Jody Golden, The seventh act was avocal quartette consisting of Chris List, Kathy Marden, Loraine Wilhelm, and Anne Wendler singing, You'll Never Walk Alone. The .two'Shieks of Araby, Wayne Boehm and Mike Hazz'ard,fkept the show, rolling with the song The 'Shiek of Araby. ' H. z ' ' . A lot of laughs were-gained by the .song novelty act, ,'FSuperman, presented by Linda Huyghe, Sue Boyd, Sally Schremjs, and Cheri Harper. ' South Schoolis dance bandythe Cavaliers, includ- inglJohn'Andersoi1, Matt' Beach, Hank Kaufinann, Denny Foerster, and Chris Meltesen played' the theme from the Peter Gunn Show which moved the show right along. ' ' ' J ' When intermission was over and people were in their seats, the show started again with the South School' Southern Rockettessettingva fast pace for the remainder of the program. Included in the Rockettes were Nancy Hatfield, Jackie J arecki, Page 38 Jean Kurth, Marlene,Melcher, Linda Petre, Ruth Provencher, Cindy- Robinson, Sally. Shear, and Guna Spacs. -This act was sponsored' hy Mrs. Kreuger. ' - - A a The Pyramid Ladder act with Morley Thomson, Lauren Howard, Kathy Braun, Barb Wilcox, Jan- ice Sarow, Sue Boyd, Cheryl Leonard, Judie Lent- ner, -Pat Martin, Gretchen Gustafson, Marcia Dur- son, Mary Kreasle,lSusan Selixit, Diane Remiers and Linda Horvat kept the .audience on the edge of their seats while cloingtmarvelous feats. ' Gossip Is Fun, presented by the South School Madrigalslwas another example of the ability of the girls' singing group. ' Following the Madrigals came Paul Lichau doing an amusing walk on. The audience almost hit the ceiling when the Stu- pid Steppers, a hilarious novelty act came on stage with their rib-tickling antics. Included in. the ,act were Jane Fetters, Diane Khuen, Greer Greenberg, Shirley Fried, Lee Ann Trask, Chris- Nagel, Wilcox, Pat Wolf, Sue Bear, Sue Albers, Sandy Barber, Jane Imerman and Morley Thomson. . ' Next came the Madrigals quartette' including Chris List, Kris Behm, Xenny Weiker, and Anne Wendler singing The Syncopated Clock. Kathy Braun and Sue Zittel kept the-show at a fast pace with a modern dance to the song Doo Doo Dotsff A i Following the fmodern dance came Sue 'Fober singing a vocal solo, Pretend.', ' . ' Linda Davis, South School's own ballerina, showed perfect coordination while dancing to her own musical composition. From the deepest part of the African jungle came the weird Voc Doo Magic. Performing this act were Sue Zittel, Greer Greenberg, .Bee Bee Schindehette, Chris, Otto, Martha Francke, Martha Peckover, and Barb Borchard. ' . P ' For the second time the show the Madrigals performed. They sang an old favorite, Jeanie With the light Brown Hain 1 a ' The final act was the South School Choir ,sing- ing 'iThis is.My Country. . f ' .Following the South School Choir came a solemn presentation to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the Civil War. Ed Sederlund, play- ing a Union soldier, was shaking hands with Tex Crevia, a Confederate soldier, in front of a .statue representing peace played by Pat Hoge. Ed Leib spoke a solemn tribute while the Hag of the Unit- ed States flew in the background. Q I
