j i The T967 Palladium has attempted to depict a significant year in the lives of Trojans, through the use of many pictures and very few words. For this reason, the song title, It Was a Very Good Year, seemed an appropriate selection for this yearbook's theme. Yes, it was a very good year. . . for having the Coastliners at the Senior Prom, for having any band at the freshman, sophomore, and junior parties, for having a dragon adorn the flagpole, for having fortune cookies on sale in the cafeteria, for having.a play minus the sce- nery, for having four Beauties of Troy, for hav- ing a contemporary American history class, for having one hundred Jannettes to represent South Houston at football games, for having one's very own South Houston note cards, for having a raccoon in the C wing, for having the District 4-A track champs, and, in general, for simply enjoying life. For the seniors, the most enjoyable part of the entire year was graduation. The thrill of renting their caps and gowns, ordering their announce- ments, and, finally, walking across that platform to receive their diplomas seemed almost too much to bear. Sadness set in, but it was a sad- ness which came from knowing they had ful- filled their first real responsibilities to themselves and their parents. Many challenges will follow, of course, but now the way will be easier. The juniors accepted their new position of su- periority with a burst of enthusiasm. Senior rings were purchased near the holiday season, as a rule, and all those concerned were extremely pleased. For the sophomores, the T966-T967 school year was one of adaptation to their roles as up- perclassmen. Their newly found prestige be- came them and developed for them a sense of belonging to this busy Trojan life. Freshmen gained their happiness through the realization that in only three short months, they, too, would be upperclassmen, As the finale of school approached, even the two-hour finals did not seem too distressing. All in all, it was a wonderful year for every student, teacher, and school employee at South Houston. Love and respect for one another en- twined the hearts of each and every one of us. This was truly our year.
