The Distributive Education department prepares the student tor his future by ottering a valuable experience in the business world. Stu- dents attend three academic classes plus one class in Distributive Edu- cation each day. Then they go to their various iob training centers. The primary purpose of the Occupational Cooperative Training Program is to provide youth an opportunity tor vocational training while they continue their general high school education. Each student strives to become both an economic asset and a good citizen in his community. The Learning Lab, which is in its first year at South Houston, seeksto help the special student to adiust to high school by using a planned curriculum, the end result being a fine productive citizen able to con- tribute to the community. 40

Mrs. Treece Strange tinds another shot record out ot date. 42 THEY QOLVE PROBLEMS The high school library affords an opportunity to stu- dents to have access tothe publications needed for their varied interests. It is the storehouse ot knowledge that opens new worlds and acts as a refuge tor needy stu- dents. The clinic serves students whose ailments range from minor aches and pains to emergency care tor the sick and iniured. Through the nursing services of the clinic, students may obtain proper intormation regarding good mental and physical hygiene. Miss Margaret Rose Lodge, head librarian, received a BA. degree trom Rice University.
