This yearbook will through the years keep fresh in your minds the relivable moments and experiences that you have shared within the walls of South Hopkins. As your princial it is my desire that these memories will become more meaningful and will deepen into a sincere appreciation of the ideals that we have tried to nurture here. They finished with a 20- 5 record, climaxing the season with a 43 point margin over arch-rival Madisonville-North Hopkins. Coach Chuck Childress The 1978-79 Boys Varsity finished the regular season with an even 13-13 record. During the year, they won the Hancock County Invitational Tourney and placed second in the Caldwell County Invitational Tourney. Timmy Maypray was the leading scorer and tied with Terry Yarbrough for leading rebounder. Tinker Stafford was the leader in assists. We made it to the finals of the regional tournament where we were defeated by West Hopkins. This team broke a school record for most points scored in a season by scoring a total of 1,952 points. Most of our success this year was due to hustle and teamwork. SPIRIT WEEK 1979 Spirit Week has become an annual event here at South Hopkins. It helps promote school spirit during the District Tournament. The Themes for this year were: Freshmen — The Keeper of It All, Sophomore — Tomcats on Parade, Juniors — Super Heroes, Seniors — Tomcat Heaven.
