Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1969 volume:

The Image of a High School S.H.H.S. This year was basically the same as any high school year; we studied - had fun, experienced sad moments of trial and error. There were games and dances; voices were hoarse from Pep Club rooting. There were brief moments of glory for some of us in sports, musicals and entertaining at S.H.H.S. All shared the hopeless reality of examinations and deadlines, the 6-weeks grades and the noontime cafeteria rush. These impressions are only a few that were packed into this full year. Credit for the production of this book goes to the Annual Staff. The Staff however has furnished the outline of the story that we find when we turn these pages filled with warm smiles of friendships and many happy recollections. The rest is up to the individual. Underclassmen who return to South Hopkins in the fall will continue to keep up the high standards of the school and strive for improvements. Graduates will go their separate ways using the knowledge they have gained here to reach their success. It is not today that we will appreciate our Memories ’69. Tomorrow when it is not so easy to think back on 1969, we will treasure the memories this book has stored for us. Memories 1969 ADVISOR: Mary Lou Earle EDITOR: Donna Lantrip Louie at the polls. Its Purpose Mona future S. H. Art teacher. Future Secretaries??? Yearbook Staff at W-o-r-k!! Ok Boys time to study. 2 Thanks to the Student Council for our VICTORY FLAG Congratulations to our cheerleaders for being runners- up in the District this year. A peanut race? What a way to clean the halls! The Key Club collected candy on Halloween. ? Its Memories The singers from Westport were real entertaining. Crowning of the 1968-69 Basketball Queen. Key Club - Faculty Basketball Game. 4 KEY CLUB SWEETHEART and ATTENDANTS Sweetheart KAREN WHITFIELD Attendants: Donna Lantrip and Vickie Clevenger Its Honors SOIL and CONSERVATION ESSAY CONTEST AWARD. Charlie Skaggs FALL FESTIVAL QUEEN STARLA WILLIAMS MISS BETTY CROCKER AWARD: Karen Whitfield Futute - Home Economics teachers! Its Future Trade School Attendants. It's not only the future that's important but our past as well. We Dedicate the 1969 Yearbook to a Person Who Is Herself Dedicated: Mrs. Kathleen Skaggs MRS. SKAGGS, is certainly deserving of South Hopkins attention. Her contributions are quiet ones; she helps Mr. Siria with office work, she is always available to stay after school or return to the school after work hours and help any teach- er in any way she can. After all this, she still has time to stop for a break in her busy day and chat with anyone stopping by her office. To this woman with the subtle sense of humor, and more than enough patience and understanding, we, the Seniors of 1969 dedicate our Yearbook. Mrs. Skaggs and her husband, who has been very helpful at our bas- ketball games as score- keeper. FACULTY Administration to Guidance Counselor MR. BILLIE R. EARLE B.S.
