Activities, classes, and sports, comprising its all-round educational program, pre- pare today's students for college and careers, and for the professional success attained by yesterday's grad- uates. lt is to these past graduates of South Hills High School and all future graduates that this fiftieth- anniversary edition of Sesame Yearbook is dedicated. Mattern, our principal, super- vises both South Hills' faculty and its students. During his six years at South Hills, he has dedicated himself to the maintenance of high academic and administrative standards for our school. Administering aptitude tests, distributing streetcar passes, and performing other vital duties, Vice-Principal Mr. James Johnston contributes much to the efficient operation of our school. Our new Vice-Principal, Mr. James Cichra devotes his time to South Hills' students their activities, and their problems. it .A M .msg Miss Davey Miss Blieszner Our counseling staff of South Hills holds the key which can unlock many doors to the future for our students. The counseling staff includes: Miss Blieszner, freshman counselor, Mr. Curry and Mr. Vitulla, sophomore counselors, Mr. Trichtinger, junior counselorp and Miss Davey, senior counselor. Mrs. Henderson --, ,wmv JJ i ,JE Mr. Nath Mrs. Wallace Andrew S. Chuska Mr. Andrew S. Chuska, activities director at South Hills is retiring this June after 36 years of teaching and service. He first came to South Hills in 1930, as an industrial arts teacher and until l950 served in that capacity. ln that year, Mr. Chuska became the activi- ties director of the school, remaining in that capacity until the present time. As his position implies, Mr. Chuska plays a maior part in the organization of assemblies and other school programs. He is the advisor of the Student Council Association, the representatives of the student homerooms, and also is in charge of the Driver's Educa- tion Club. Mrs. Griffin and Mr. Chuska co-sponsor the National Honor Society, our honorary scholastic organization. We of South Hills wish Mr. Chuska luck in his future life and endeavors. I4 ANDREW S. The members of Choir A, the maior performing choir, meet every third period to practice for assemblies. With each assembly, every choir member gains a feeling of self-satisfaction as well as enioyment. Three other choirs, B, C, and D, are also a part of South Hills' vocal music program. Variety is the key to listening pleasure. Mr. Linkenheimer's superb ability for variety pleases everyone. Each member of the band displays an example of school spirit by giving their time and talents for the pleasures of others. Its members participate in district tournaments, where they compete with other local students in the fields of Drama, Debate, Oratory, Humor, Extem- poraneous Speech, Impromptu, and various other catagories ot public speaking. After practicing for many nights after school, participants rise early Saturday mornings to compete in district tournaments.
