The sunlight shining through the Classroom window, the fluorescent lights illuminating halls and rooms, the rainbow lights of the'speeial assembly program 3 how significant these are! How important islight itself, from the gleam of the firefly to the great lights of the sky! ln our personal lives, along with our home and church, our Alma Mater has been a guiding light, We have been led along the right paths toward, we hope, a bright future. To help us recapture those illuminated paths which we have followed these last four years, let us switch on the light of the 1957 Sesame Yearbook. Ula Honor 5 W V Miss Pearl Walter To say thanks for work well-done is not easy, for one can- not find words to express alife-time of service to others. Those of us who have been in Miss Pearl Walter's history classes, and we must number thousands, have received much more than a mere record of the past. We have taken away a reverence for our American heritage, a recognition of the dreams and strug- gles of peoples who, long before America was a nation, were molding our present. Moreover, some of us, at least were aware of our teacher's skill in presentation, ofher careful con- sideration of our individual needs, of her unceasing efforts to help us interpret as well as to remember. We are proud to dedicate the 1957 Sesame to Miss Walter. May she have many more years of happiness and good health. The 1957 Seniors Mr. Fred Glaser The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord. Therefore, all light is borrowed light. During our high school years, we have continuously borrowed guiding light from our principal, Others will continue to do so, we hope, for many years to come. Our own light will burn more steadily because of his. Miss Marjorie Seidle With the light lent us by Miss Marjorie Seidle, our counselor, we have threaded many a gloomy passageway. She has led us through the maze, and now we find our- selves coming out into the sunlight on the other side. We know that there are many others who will need this same guidance, and will be given it as generously as we have. Uur leaders To Mrs. Marguerite Pritchard, the girls' adviser, V we resort on various occasions. She helps us with our schedules and our problems. Many and many-a time g in the future, we shall wish that we might 'ask Mrs. Pritchard. Dr. John McLaughlin Although Dr. John McLaughlin, our vice-principal, has few moments to give away in the course of a school day, he is always ready to speak the encouraging word, the admonitory one, the right word at the right moment. He has a humorous way of telling us the truth that makes us like it. We shall miss his good advice and the gleam of wit which so often enlivens. We February seniors do thank him for having given himselfto us so generous- lv. The wheel of fortune first brought Mr. Howard Nedetsky to South Hills as a pupil and a member of the 1936 championship football team. A second turn brought him back as a teacher and assistant football coach. We June seniors had the good sense totake advantage of that second turn and select him as our class sponsor. We have become very fond of Mr. Nedetsky, We like his good sportsmanship, his sense of humor, and his kindness, We wish him all the good fortunein the world, particularly, someday, one special turn of the wheel to include another championship football team.
