The South Hill Chapter of the National Beta Club received its charter in Novem- ber, 1937. The Chapter began with William Farrar as President and 20 members. It was organized to promote the ideals of honesty, service, and leadership. The Scribblers Club was organized in the year of 1938 by Mrs. Joe P. Gilliam. The purpose of this club is to publish monthly a school paper. The name Tatler was suggested by the late Mrs. Charles H. Morgan and was accepted as the name of the paper. The first editor-in-chief of the Tatler was Peggy Copley (Mrs. T. E. Allen). [ 28 ]

This year the club sponsored Book Week activities, helped with all library duties, presented an interesting program at each monthly meeting, and sponsored an educa- tional tour of Richmond on May 6, 1950.
