FOOT PRINTS 1938 South Hill High School SENIOR CLASS ELECT OFEICERS The first meeting of the Senior class was called the first of October for the purpose of electing officers. After a careful consideration of the candidates the following officers were elected: President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Reporter Meredith Freeman Ann Montgomery Nancy Willard Sarah Hudson .. Marie Thompson SENIORS GO TO SEE MACBETH In November the Seniors were very delighted at the opportunity of going to Henderson to see “Macbeth.” It was shown on the stage by the Avon players, who are widely known ])rofessional actors. This play was very interesting because the English class had just finished reading the tragedy. DR. A. H. STRICT PAYS VISIT HERE Dr. A. H. Strict, music instructor from Earmville State Teachers Col- lege, came to our school in March and entertained the school in chapel with several selections on the piano. Mr. Walter Payne sang several solos. APPRECIATION TO THE ROTARIANS We would like to thank the members of the Rotary Club for the spirit they have shown toward our school. Twice a month two members of the high school, getting the highest citizenship mark, are entertained by the Rotary Club. This encourages the students and is quite an honor. We appreciate this very much. BASKETBALL BANQUET On March 23, 1938, a Basketball Banquet was enjoyed by the mem- bers of both teams. John Tucker acted as toastmaster and Mr. Bean, mayor, gave an interesting talk on athletics. Several officers, also Coaches Gilliam and Chaffey, spoke on their appreciation of the teams. After the banquet the members of both teams and their invited guests went to the Big Exchange Warehouse to dance. On May 4th the Choral Club sponsored the well known lyric soprano. Miss Alma Milstead, who is a member of the Metropolitan Opera Com- pany. Miss Milstead is rated as one of the seven best singers in the U. S. and is internationally known as a great artist. The Choral Club gave programs at many churches and schools in the country and sang over radio station W. R. V. A. in Richmond. Ticenty-Txco
