It should have been a good year for the girls in gold and blue but the road to victory was rocky. ...the first day on the new practice field was just the beginning of a season plagued with problems. The pitcher ' s mound was built on top of boulder size gravel and it didn ' t take long to realize that steady footing was going to be almost impossible. The baseline between second and third base was the location of an uncovered sprinkler and slides had to be taken out of the practice game. Then the rains came and among the mounting problems were muddy infields, swampy weed- covered outfields, and weather cancelled games. Add a few injuries to key players and the jinx became complete. It was almost as if the gods were playing against the Wild Kittens. They allowed the girls a feeling of friendship that offered a taste of victory but they placed the winning score just beyond their reach and gave the Wild Kittens a season that was truly rocky. 1.
