Willie ' s Fan Club was made up of male and female students from the student body, any student who had lots of spirit and energy as well as a dedication to the spectator sports. The members attended all the home and away games, backed the team with spirit and noise, and promoted good sportsmanship. Pep Band, which was another important part of the Fans-ln-The-Stands, sounded off to a great season also. Pep Band was made up of members of the Marching Band who were chosen for this special group and was led by student directors, Kim Wipert and Judy Green. The Pep Band performed at all of the home games and morning pep rallies as well as often ending the day with the Wildcat Fight Song. Without the Fan Club and the Pep Band, South ' s games would never have been quite the same. So when the Pep Band and Willie ' s Fan Club got their beat together, you knew the Wildcats were on the way to another V-l-C-T- O-R-Y! 1. Kim Wipert. 2. Pep Band. 3. Willie ' s Fan Club. 4. The 1980-81 season was the year for the Wildkittens. With most of their starters from last year coming back, the Wildkittens went 16-5 for the season and 8-1 in the league to capture their first WOL championship. The good times didn ' t end there as the Wildkittens also beat arch-rival North 56-47 for the first time since girls ' basketball began at South, thus becoming the 1980-81 City Champs. Mr. Copeland felt the girls had a better ball team than in the past. He also stated that he was very pleased about being WOL Champs and he felt the girls deserved the honors they received for all their hardwork. Karen Hargrow felt that being WOL Champs was one way to promote spectator support for the girls ' athletic program at South. Rochelle Woods was happy about the season and felt it was a great accomplishment to beat North.
