This Page Sponsored By: WILLIE ' S FAN CLUB We Support South CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF ' 81 WILDCAT GIANT KILLERS They didn ' t look much like a basketball team when they came out on the floor. All of the players were too short to really play round ball and one player was almost too skinny and another wore space-age goggles. However, when the first center throw was made and the clock began to tick, the five Wildcats on the floor played like a team of giants. Speed was their game and many opposing teams never saw the quick moves that set up the winning baskets for the Cats. The skinny kid was known as the ' Ice Man ' and he could do it all. With his left handed shots, Trev led the 1980-81 Wildcats and nightly earned his title of Captain. The kid with the space-age goggles was the play maker and nobody could move the ball with the grace and ease of Scott Thomas. With the shooting of Pepper Bego and the defense of Corky Daniels there was little that the Cats couldn ' t do. Any rough edges were rounded off by Steve Morgan, Keith Morgan, Brian Long, and LeRoy Hill and there were few nights that the Wildcats didn ' t thrill the fans and score the points. It was a good year filled with last minute wins and a special 20 point victory over rival North. 1. Trev Waker. 2. Carlton Daniels. 3. Keith Morgan. 4. Scott Thomas. 5. Anthony Rhodes 6. Nervously waiting for game day and then leading a pep rally in the morning, riding a bus in the afternoon, and hopefully cheering the team to victory at night made a full day for any student and especially for a cheerleader. Being a cheerleader was not always a glamour job. ..sometimes it was a hot gym, sweat, and a sagging hair style; sometimes it was the tears of defeat instead of the smiles of victory, but it was always spirit and laughter. It was the excitement of watching the team pull ahead or score that last-moment winning basket or starting a cheer and suddenly finding that the Fan Club and the spectators were raising the roof with the cheer you started. Being a cheerleader is an exciting experience which is important to the individual girl, to the team, to the coaches, and to the spectators. 1. Dee Dee Lytle, Marsha Mills. 2.
