This Paga Sponsored By SHS ADULT BOOSTERS salute 1981 Graduates 60 ANOTHER ONE BIT THE DUST The 1980 South High football team had a great season with a final record of 6-3-1 and their opponents soon learned to fear the wrath of the Mighty Wildcats. Even though it was a season plagued by rainy nights and muddy fields, it was filled with exciting pass plays, long yardage runs, and good defense. It was a season that excited fans and pleased coaches and players. Senior center Darryl Peal stated that the team worked well as a whole. He said, As a player, I never felt like I was alone on the field. I always knew I could count on my team mates and I really enjoyed the season. Senior half-back Tim Lewis seemed to sum up the feelings of many of the players when he said, I would have liked to have had more opportunities to have been a greater help to the team. This is the spirit that creates a good team and the spirit that built a winning Wildcat team, a team that caused their opponents to bite the dust. 1. They generally neglected to think about the people who went unnoticed but definately made things happen for without the assistant coaches, the trainers, and the statistions there would have been a large void in any team organization. These people were very dedicated and were really appreciated by both players and coaches as they helped to make things run smoothly each Friday night. Rae Jean Casey, a statistion, said she felt she had really learning a lot about football. By being on the sideline, Rae felt that she was a part of the team and that she now had a different outlook on the game. Harry Daniels, an offensive guard, who was injured in an early scrimmage game, flet that he had left the team down. He also said it wasn ' t easy for him to watch the game from the sideline.
